We might all be better off if most of us drove Fiat 500s!

xerox premium multipurpose paper at costco

Author:

FYI

I tried some of the Xerox Premium Multipurpose (printer) paper at
Costco. It comes in a single 800 sheet package wrapped in plastic.

Can't say I'm impressed with the stuff. The packaging is probably
the problem. The edges of the paper just seem beat up or rolled.
I'm going to stick to the commonly packaged 500 sheet stuff in the
future.

Also the 800 sheet pack is so tall it won't fit in any of the paper
storage slots you get in the various printer accessory stations
which are designed for 500 sheet packs.

On the plus side, it is 24 lb paper, but it's nothing compared to
the old Georgia-Pacific Advantage Desktop 24 lb stuff I bought back
when. The old stuff had a much denser looking surface area compared
side by side under a bright light.

On the other hand, a sheet of any paper is better than none at all.

  online ("direct") savings accounts? emigrantdirect.com?

Author: Logan Shaw

Any opinions on online a/k/a "direct" savings accounts? I'm looking to
put some money somewhere, and 3-5 business days to access it is acceptable,
but locking it up in a CD is not what I want.

Is emigrantdirect.com a good deal? It seems like it, but if I am giving up
decent customer service to get slightly higher rates, that's not worth it to
me. I'll take 4.5%% APY with good customer service over 5%% APY with
headaches. I'm not saying emigrantdirect.com is bad; just that you can't
get something for nothing. In particular, though, there is one thing on
their disclosures page that makes me uneasy:

Refusal to Permit Withdrawal
The Bank may refuse to permit withdrawals in cases such as,
but not limited to, the following:

1. The Bank chooses to exercise its legal rights to require
up to 60 days' advance written notice of any intended withdrawal
from this Account and the 60 days have not passed since we
received the required notice from you;

Is this some standard banker language that I've just never noticed before,
or is it really bad as it sounds like, that they can just arbitrarily
decide to hold your money for 60 days for no reason?

I don't know about glasses lenses, but believe it or not, a light
application of Brasso polishing liquid worked really well with a
severely scratched screen on a friend's old iPod. Both of us were pretty
amazed to see how well it cleared up the scratches. It takes
persistence, though. He used a soft polishing cloth and he had to keep
buffing for a long time.
