Beginner's Question: Adding a 2nd Monitor to my XP System

Author: chenHu68
Date: May 6, 2008 20:42

Hello

I just got a new 22" monitor, which my Nvidia Quadro FX3000 is able
to drive without problems (I'm not a gamer - just regular office type
applications user).

Instead of eBaying my old 17" monitor, I thought maybe I can use it to
increase my monitor real estates. The FX3000 video card comes with two
DVI ports, so I hooked up the old screen to the second DVI port on the
FX3000, but everything just slowed down to a crawl, obviously the card
can't handle 2 monitors.

Do you think installing a second PCI video card would solve the
problem? I don't have any experience building systems so advice is
appreciated. Also, would I need to buy any special software for the
two video cards to work together?

Thanks.

  Defragment flash drive on Vista

XP allows me to defragment drives other than my hard drive. I am unable to
find that capability on my Vista. Is it available and how would I access it.
Thanks.

1000 gb hdd only recognizes 132 gb

I recently purchased a samsung spinpoint 1000 gb hdd (HD 103UJ) as a
replacement drive for the current system. Went thru normal windows xp pro
installation process and the drive seemed to be set up fine. But only 132 gb
are being shown for volume C. Device Manager shows capacity 954 gb,
Unallocated Space 823gb. ('my computer' shows 'local disk c' total size 127
gb). How can I go about using the total drive

pci pnp function does not work anymore

I was trying to install a modem in a Shuttle Xps computer, but it did not
want to connect to the dial-up site. So I installed a second one that did not
work well in the computer. But installing the third one in the same slot
(there is only one pci slot in this computer) did not get recognized. And now
it does not recognize any pnp cards in this slot. What can I do? Is it
something in the services, or does it need something else to be done?

Hardware conflict causes XP boot screen to hang

Author: Thumper

I installed a Zonet ZUC2400 PCI card (USB + Firewire) and now Windows
XP hangs when it gets to the Windows logo screen. I removed my Win-TV
PVR-150 card and rebooted. Same deal. I then removed the Zonet card,
rebooted (normally) and inserted the Zonet card while XP was turned
on. XP identified the card and I was able to connect my camcorder and
transfer video flawlessly. But when I restarted, Windows XP hangs
(like before).

MY SPECS
* Motherboard and CPU: ASUS P5B Motherboard, Intel CPU Support: (Core
2 Duo/Quad, Pentium 4/D, Celeron), Intel P965/ICH8 Chipset, Socket 775
* Card: Zonet ZUC2400 (USB 2.0 + Firewire PCI Combo Card, VIA VT63-6
and VIA VT6214L listed on chips)
OS: Windows XP SP2, fully up to date
*ATI Radeon 9600

Is there something I need to install to make this work? Is the VIA
chipset the culprit? A user at NewEgg.com said this Zonet ZUC2400 card
works perfectly with the Asus P5B, so I don't understand.
