Windows XP SP2 with 6 USB2 ports (2 ports already connected for other devices)
I have WD My Book and trying to install with my desktop computer.
When I connect this HD device as instructed, Found New Hardware Wizard
pops up (Hardware found: My Book) and I select "Install the software
automatically"
But it cannot install this hardware. I finds ?MyBook in Device Manager but
no drivers installed. Disk management shows no drive letter.
Looking for solution!

My existing hard drive is quite small so I've just got a new Western Digital
500GB SATA II hard drive and want to make it my "main" drive. The BIOS
allows a choice of boot device, first one being CD/DVD drive, second floppy
drive, 3rd boot device is my existing SATA hard drive and then it goes on
to list SATA 2, SATA 3 and SATA 4.
I'd obviously like to be able to select my new drive as the first boot
device and have my existing drive active so that I could transfer stuff like
music, photo's etc., etc by drag and drop between my old and new drives.
This of course means that both drives would have a C: drive with Windows XP
on each of them, but, because I can select SATA 2 (my new drive) as the
first boot device in the BIOS, am I right in thinking that it IS possible -
or would they "interfere" with each other and cause major problems?
Thanks,
John

My floppy drive is giving me an error when I put a disk in it says
"floppy disk controller reported error not reconizing floppy disk driver"
It seems to be a driver problem I uninstalled and rebooted both driver and
controller.
Is there any place I can download the standard floppy drivers? Mine might be
corrupt

Hi:
Power Supply of one of PCs is now dead, as seeing nothing happened even
numerous tries by asking questions on other MS Group.
Then, I'm thinking of replace 'Power Supply.' The PC with XP is about
5 years old with XP Home Edition made by HP.
My question is;
Replacing Power-Supply is NOT really hard for a novice like me who only
had experience Ram-expansion by opening the PC-case?
Any other suggestions and advices would be truly appreciated.

I have a Gigabyte 7VM400M - RZ motherboard and am running XP Pro. I
have changed the monitor to a BENQ 900W wide screen but it would seem
that the screen is not being detected by Plug and Play.
Only "Default Monitor" is shown and I cannot adjust the resolution to
the wide screen resolution. The monitor came with a CD containing
drivers and instructions on how to load the drivers but in the Device
Manager window there is no entry for Display adapter or for Monitor so
there is no means of loading drivers.
How can I get the new screen recognised and the driver loaded.

Hello
Friend of mine has a Dell laptop, running XP, which has an external USB -
CD-Rom
Always worked ok, hasn't used it for a few weeks, went to plug it in and
it's not working. Well it works coz you can hear it, and the light comes on
and the pc detects it when the USB is plugged in and in Hardware devices,
but there is a yellow question mark on it in Device manager and it's not
found in MyComputer.
So we downloaded the Firmware from the Dell website, and it says in the
Readme.doc that we have unzip it to a bootable floppy or memory stick, and
reboot, let it find the thing and do it's bit and then when it goes to
reboot remove the floppy/stick and hey presto.
How do we get a bootable floppy or memory stick?
Thank you

I am trying to follow the microsoft instructions for
adding a remote printer to an XP machine:
- click add printer
- tick local printer
- install XP drivers etc.
The problem is that the 'local printer' option is greyed
out. If I take the network printer option then the printer
on the Win2000 pc is found but I am not given the option
of loading XP drivers.
Any thoughts?
Davy
