  Unable to install Realtek drivers

Author: daveiosys
Date: May 27, 2008 18:44

ASUS MB - P5GC-MX/1333.
XP Professional SP-2.
3+ Terabytes Hard Drive available.
3 gig RAM.
I am unable to install Realtek High Definition Audio drivers.
The install fails irrespective if I attempt to install from CD included
with motherboard or downloaded file from ASUS web site.
InstallShield starts then halts and advises Realtek High Definition
Audio driver install has failed.
InstallShield then closes.
Any assistance is appreciated.
Thank you.

  Strange booting

Author:
Date: May 27, 2008 15:51

After formatting the HD and adding a new one on my Intel pentium 4 PC I
noticed a strange behavior: I need to press any key on the KB to have it
boot. Then everything runs fine.
Any idea?
Thanks,
Andrea

Delay selecting items in Explorer on external drive

Author: Rubicon
Date: May 27, 2008 12:16

When clicking on any item - folder or file - in Windows Explorer for a USB2
external drive, there is a four/five second delay till that item gets
highlighted. Happens every time only for one particular external drive.
During that time everything is frozen.
Except for this delay everything works fine.
Do we need to look out for anything? Drive tested free of malware and
viruses.
Regards and thanks for any insights.

Trying to recover XP after failed upgrade to SP3

Author:

I had my system just the way I wanted it and everything I wanted to do
worked.

Then I upgraded to SP3.

SP3 wouldn't boot and nor would safe mode so I had to "repair" my
installation by reinstalling my original SP1 installation disk and
installing SP2 over the top of it.

Sadly my system is nowhere near the state it was in before. Since SP3
caused this problem and SP3 intransigence in not allowing me to remove
it in the usual way has caused a lot of problems that would take me 20
mins to list here ... however

Unable to retain multimedia keyboard 1.1 mouse settings

Author: TakaMan
Date: May 27, 2008 07:33

I am using Windows XP with the Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard 1.1 along with
the associated "Standard Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse".

Everything works correctly, except the pointer options are not retained
between system restarts. I need to manually set "Select a pointer speed" and
"Enhance pointer precision" everytime I boot. It works as expected until the
next time I boot the system.

I think the problem started when the original keyboard/mouse failed, and I
replaced it with a new identical keyboard/mouse. During the process I
uninstalled/reinstalled all the software, downloaded new software, etc.

I believe that an old set of software or settings is being loaded after the
initial boot, so that the settings are not retained. I notice that there are
two similar directories as follows:
"c:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliTYpe Pro"
"c:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint"

The Driver hardware details show:

Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard (IntelliType Pro)
Driver Date: 11/7/2006
Driver Version 6.10.155.0
File version: 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)

Using the right CPU together on the right mobo

Author: attilathehun1

I want to know if I can mix and match AMD and Intel CPUs if they have the
same amount of pin holes on motherboards. Anotherwords, can I use a Intel CPU
on an AMD motherboard if it fits. Yes or no?
Any help would be greatly apprecaiated.
Thanks, attilathehun1
