  Folder icon color got changed

Author: Manoj C
Date: May 20, 2008 23:59

On the Windows Explorer window, the color of the folder icon got changed. I
don't know how it happened. It is now showing in a different color than the
standard one, that is yellow. I tried selecting the correct icon from the
Customize tab of the Properties dialog box. But, it is not changing. Also, I
tried the Restore Default option also. Can someone help me in this.
Thanks.

HANG AT STEP 5 OF CHECK DISK UTILITY (FREE SPACE CHECK)

Author: Teo
Date: May 20, 2008 22:56

I have a Toshiba Satellite M115 S3094
O/S: Windows XP Pro SP2

After taking over 20 minutes to restart via Start/Turn of

Computer/Restart I got the screen saying that the computer may have

shutdown to save some files or a power outage or someother improper

shutdown occured. It gave me options on how to restart the computer

such as restart normally; last known good configuration; safe mode (3

or 4 different variations of that). Nothing would restart the

computer. Just kept cycling to that shutdown error page.

I rebooted the computer with the Toshiba Recovery Disk and re-formatted

the HDD. I scheduled a disk check and the first 4 steps cycled through

fine. At step 5, "Check Free Space" it hung and would not go past 0%%.
I waited over an hour and nothing happened. I did a hard restart and it

went immediately back to the check disk utility. It hung again at step

5.

I restarted again and bypassed the check disk utility and the computer

booted fine. But something is wrong and I am leery about re-installing

all my software just to have it crash again.

Any ideas on what could be the problem and if so, any solutions?

  Mouse and Keyboard Property windows

Author: Greg T
Date: May 20, 2008 21:31

I'm having a problem with the mouse and keyboard property windows. I have a
Microsoft Wireless Desktop 1000(mouse is Wireless Optical Mouse
2000/keyboard is a Wireless Multimedia Keyboard). The property windows for
the mouse and keyboard open but the text is too large for the window
consequently the windows don't show all the text and some of the buttons
either show partially or not at all. The kicker is that this doesn't happen
with all the tabs. The mouse tabs that are affected are: Buttons, Scrolling,
Activities and Wireless. The keyboard tabs affected are: Key Settings and
Wireless. OS is WinXP Pro SP3. Mouse and keyboard drivers version are 6.2.
If I uninstall mouse and keyboard drivers and just use generic everything is
alright but I lose some of the features for the mouse and...

How can I display my PC on my TV?

Author: Stan Hilliard
Date: May 20, 2008 21:22

I want to display my PC on my TV to show video from the Internet.

I set the TV as a second monitor. When I boot the PC, the TV will
display the bios screen and the windows startup icon but will not
display the welcome screen or the desktop or programs.

In PC's display settings, the "identify" button puts a "1" on the
monitor and "2" on the TV -- as it should.

Equipment:
Video Card: GeForce 5500, ports are analog VGA and digital DVI.
The DVI port is cabled to monitor -- Viewsonic 912b LCD, 1280x1024.
The VGA port is cabled to a wireless sender ---> wireless receiver.
The wireless receiver has a composite cable to the TV's video2 port.
The TV is a Sony kdl-40V4100.

The monitor is set to 1280x1024, 32 bit color. The TV is set to
640x480 pixels, 32 bit color.

Question: Why can I transmit the "Identify" number to the TV but
cannot transmit the PC's desktop or programs?

An explanation will be appreciated,
Stan Hilliard

Long over the top post about right to left Languages and Alignment

Author: jameshanley39

It seems to me that looking at programs

Notepad, Wordpad, MS Word, Textpad

Every program behaves a bit differently.

-----------Notepad and the start...Run dialog box----------

You do need to do that installation of R-->L languages.

CTRL + L/R SHIFT does not work until You have added [support for] R-
>L languages. i.e. ctrl panel...regional language options... "Install
files for complex script and right-to-left languages....." Which (i
think) then says "install arabic armenian georgian hebrew indic thai
vietnamese language files"
It adds them in the sense of adding them to a list of languages
available for installation/adding to use.
You already have a few dozen L->R languages listed there anyway. This
just adds a few more languages, these R->L ones.

That alone will get CTRL+L/R SHIFT working in notepad and the
start..run dialog box.

Of course, For it to be useful in typing Hebrew or Arabic, you need to
add the language (for use).

Something on my system is trying to connect to outside. But what???

Author: Frank Dreyfus
Date: May 20, 2008 19:35

Hi,

Some process is making repeated attempts (every 5 seconds or so) to
connect to ip: 216.168.41.231 TCP ports 135 and 524.

That ip appears to belong to Digital Forest in Seattle, WA. Digital
Forest appears to be a web hosting company.

My firewall is blocking these attempts. It's the firewall log that
alerted me to this situation.

I'd like to kill the process that's doing this, but have no idea how to
find the process. Netstat is no help b/c there is no open connection;
just an attempt.

Any ideas how to track this down?

Thanks,

Frank

Somehow the list of programs when I click on START has been radically
reduced. I need to know if thereis a way to get the list back.

What is a good Free virus program? I've had it with McAfee, it uses way to
many resources, and is getting too expensive for me...
