I am not sure whether or not I set an administror's password when I
installed XP professional. I want it for accessing the Recovery Console. XP
won't boot so I can't use the Management Console. Is there a way around this
predicament?

I have created a BartPE from a XP professional installation CD. My question
is: is is possible to test it out on a Home edition system? I mean just look
at the IDE if there is any. I am not going to apply any of the options.
Final question: when I run the BartPE CD does it mean that my desktop is now
running XP professional and not Home edition?

After installing the driver for an HP scanner, my computer now displays the
following message on the desktop upon startup:
HP Precision Pro Setup
This program updates your HP scanning software. You may see a message about
'Digital signature not found'. You must click 'Yes' for the update to
install correctly. OK
My scanner is working fine. How do I get this message to disappear? Please
advise.

This is no big deal but it's puzzling me and I'd like to fix it
please.
My \Downloads folder is very large because I keep all my downloaded
setup files after installing them, even after uninstalling. So finding
files in it is quickly is important. Most setups download as a ZIP,
and the typical procedure I use is to keep the Downloads folder in
Date Modified order, so the latest download, say xmplay342.zip,
appears at the end, where I can immediately see it. The procedure is
then:
1) Select xmplay342.zip, r-click and drag, choose Extract...
2) In 'Welcome to the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard',
click Next
3) In 'Select a destination', click Next to accept the default
C:\Docs\Downloads\xmplay342
4) Uncheck 'show extracted files', and click to finish.
On my old (XP Home) PC, that *always* created the folder 'xmplay342'
right next to the file 'xmplay342.zip'. So I could open it and proceed
with the installation, or read any ReadMe, etc.

Hello folks,
I have a MS optical mouse 2000 and use the MS Intelipoint software. My
favorite function is the magnify function, and I have assigned the middle
button click to invoke it.
I'm pretty happy with this feature, but I wish I could in some way start
this functionality using a keyboard shortcut, so I could be able to use the
middle button click for something else.
I use AutoHotKey to create some scripts here and if I could find a way to
start this functionality in a command-line way, so I could write a script to
bring it up every time I used CTRL + middle click.
I found out that when the Magnify function is active it show up the
Magnify.exe process in the Task Manager, and this file is located in
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\Components\Commands\DPGMgy" but
unfortunately I wasn't able to start it by typing the shortcut or clicking
over it (nothing happens).
I believe there must be a way for me to start it using the process ipoint.exe.
Can someone shine me a light on this? I've been trying to figure out a way
to do this all day and wasn't successful.
By the way, I'm using Windows XP Pro SP3

Hello,
I have XP Pro, SP 2 with all updates. I use Avast, Spybot, and Adaware. I
have one pc with 4 users set up with different logins. It has been this way
for at least 2 years.
Lately, two users profiles have defaulted to "new users". In other words,
all setting have vanished and when logging in to one of those two users, it
appears as if you are setting up a user for the first time. I go into
Explorer and can see the original user, with all files in tact, but the user
isn't pointing to the settings.
I have created new users and copied all of the old settings to the new users
and this will "fix" the problem. But recently, this happened a second time.
I can't figure it out.
I have run the above stated programs, but really don't find anything.
Can anyone give a helping hand?
Thank you,
Alex

I just bought a Zalman CPU fan model #CPNS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler.
Now, I've built PCs and usually I install the stock fan and use a screw
driver to push down on the side to get it clipped onto the mobo. This fan
seems a little too big and do you think I should use the same procedure to
install this one?
I don't want to mess it up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
attilahthehun1
PS Gary, I don't need to be reminded to bring it to a PC tech. Otherwise
I'd not be asking this question. Gary, if you've ever installed a Zalman,
which I doubt, you'd know what I'm talking about. This one is a bit hard.
