  Windows Restoration When Boot Backup

Author: W. Watson

I must not have some option checked. When XP Pro comes up after a restart
with several windows open, the windows are not restored. I noticed this does
not happen on W2K.

I appear to have pressed the wrong key and turned this correspondence into a
private one rather than posting it here, which was the intention. For the
benefit of anyone else following the thread, I now post it.

The fix for that is to keep a backup of that data on an external hard drive
or
DVDRAM or CDRW media.

  Download backup

I have Windows XP Home. There is no backup utility included, but there is
one for XP Pro. I read Home users can download the utility, but I can't
find it. Does anyone know where it is?

That is totally and utterly wrong. Your post was basically incorrect and
you've been incorrect many times since. On the other hand my post was 100%%
factually correct.

Yes.

No. It says motherboard, cpu OR ram. It could be any of them that is faulty.
You're really splitting hairs here trying to find fault. While memtest
might well be designed to test ram only it can hardly do that without
testing at least parts of the cpu and memory controller.
> The actual truth is that Memtest86 will find RAM problems. Period.

That is just plain wrong. It will also find some cpu and motherboard
problems.
