Where in REG are settings for Display Properties "Advanced Appearance"

Author: Andy

Where in the registry can I find the entries which record the "Advanced
Appearance" settings in the Display Properties window?

The Advanced Appearance entries include things like:

icon spacing
thickness of title bar on windows
size of font in menus, tooltips, icons, etc.

Hello,

I have a COMPAQ. I tried to create a restore cd of winxp pretty much
right away but it wouldn't create one.

Anyway shortly after windows went &*%%$!#!! and I lost the restore partition.

So I bought a winxp and installed it on the computer

I needed to find out what sound driver I needed to make the sound work.

I called India to speak to the Compaq heldesk. Paul I beleive his name was
helped me. All I wanted was the driver name but he said the only option
was to buy their restore disk for what was it 40 dollars.

OK no help from paul, he told me have a great day yet it was pretty dark
out side.

I hung up the phone and though oh AC97. Downloaded and installed and
there was sound. Hurrah

Now, I want to install XP on another computer because I have two liscences
but the Genuine Advantage seems to keep me from validating the WINXP

I have two liscences but only one install cd. Can I call Microsoft India
helpdesk and get them to validate the windows on another machine?

Mike from microsoft India had told me that I would have to get a copy of
windows from Compaq but like I said they want 40 dollars.

  VPN help

Author: rfriedri
Date: Dec 15, 2006 21:55

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I want to be
able to
create a VPN using the Microsoft XP client (L2TP with preshared key).
I have installed as reported by the system properties:

Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

When I create the VPN with the wizard I see a few problems.

1. I am unable to select "Save this user name and password for the
following users:"

Not a big deal, I can enter that each time.

2. If I go into properties -> Security -> IPSec Settings and select
"Use pre-shared key for authentication" and enter a password, then save
everything. When I
return the check box still is correct but the key is gone. On other XP
systems the key
is changed to a series of "**********".

Re: How can I tell if my PC has sufficient power from its PSU?

Author: w_tom

Defined was that using those watts numbers report nothing useful.
Demonstrated was that a 500 watt supply may also be a 350 watt supply.
So which number gets applied to the estimator? Predictabley, your
estimators gave inconsistent numbers such as 297 and 700 - because
again they are 'magic solutions' rather than basic science. A third
reason - any power supply can be oversized and still not not provide
sufficient power on only one voltage. Appreciate that my post also
provided reasons. Any suggestion without important 'reasons why'
should be discounted. No 'reasons why' is symptomatic of popular urban
myths.

Also defined as ineffective is that motherboard monitor. Without a
meter, that monitor does not (is not intended) to provide accurate
voltage numbers. But then, does the motherboard have hardware for that
monitor? If not, software has nothing to read; just another reason why
the monitor would report nothing useful.

MY son is in Iraq and having problems with his computer. He deleted some
files and now when he connects any device to his USB ports it recognizes
something being connected but the device will not work. Ex: thumb drive
shows in hardware as other with exclamtion saying no drivers found. We sent
him a game controller and he installed software and then connects controller
- it doesn't work. When looking under device manager the USB controllers do
not have yellow exclamation.
He is getting very bored over in Iraq and would like to correct this issue.

Can anyone advise please
