I've just ordered a little computer (an Asus EEE Box EBXB202-X0081 Intel
Atom N270 (1.60GHz) 1GB DDR2 160GB Intel GMA 950 preloaded with Windows
XP Home). I know my way, fairly well, around XP Pro but have never used
XP Home so I have a few questions:
I presume it will be a one-user machine. Will that user have
administrative privileges, i.e., can that user load new programs?
How do I get in administrative mode if not? I recall that you must
reboot and do something or other. What is that "something or other"?
I've packed all of by XP books so I don't have easy access to the above
information.
Thanks in advance for any information or pointers that you can give me.

I've got a PC running XP and a Laptop running Vista connected via a wireless
network at home. My girlfriend has just moved in and brought her PC (XP) with
her.
I've heard people say that with multiple computers you can do things like
set one of them up as a server or set one up as a firewall or something to
free the others up and improve performance...
My question is, what is the best use of three PCs and can anyone point me in
the direction of some step-by-step guidance that will help?
Thanks

Microsoft Wireless keyboard 1000 bought this week contains no documentation
to explain how to use all of the keys. For example, on all keyboards I have
ever used the F5 key is pressed to get a refresh of any page I am viewing.
On the 1000 keyboard F5 appears to open a file. There are icons shown on
every function key, but there is no documentation to show what feature is
executed when a function key is clicked. Nor is there any information to
explain how to program the function keys or the special keys that are on the
keyboard. I need documentation that shows each key on the keyboard and
explains how to use it

Using XP Pro. When I download a file that opens in Windows Media Player - it
always downloads to a temp folder first. How do I find this temp folder? I
can not locate it on my PC. All help appreciated.

Hi-
Couldn't find an appropriate place to post this, but thought this might be a
good first place. I seem to be getting very inconsistent results when I'm
accessing the Microsoft Discussion Groups. I do a search on a keyword, and
occasionally the thread I'm looking for appears in the list, occasionally it
doesn't.
When it does appear, and I click on it, occasionally it say's something
along the lines of 'community message not available'. It will then not
recognize it if I try to load that thread again. I click on it once, and it
reverts to the '+' sign. I click again, and it does nothing. If I then
re-search it often will not find that thread. Other times, I click on the
thread and it does expand and I can actually see what's going on in the
discussion.
Any idea what's going on with this interface? Do other people have this
problem, or is it something in my settings??
Mark

I recently added a Samsung DVD RW drive to a Windows XP SP3 Professional
computer in our work environment. We do not allow anyone to run as local
admins.
On this computer, the drive shows up fine when logged in as administrator.
3 different software packages recognize it fine and can record DVDs to it
(Sony DVD Architect, Nero 7, and InfraRecorder). However, once a non-admin
logs in, all three software packages (and Windows itself) only recognize the
drive as a CD-RW.
I am racking my brains over this one. I've searched countless newsgroups
and support sites, but can't find anything. (It's probably something stupid
in my search terms - I know I can't be the only one with this problem!)
Any ideas?
Thanks
