Disapearing Desktop Shortcuts CE 5.0

This question concerns WIN CE 5.0 embedded in a PND. The shorcuts are
created from the Explorer option, and sent to the desktop via the "send to".
The resulting shorcuts appear, and function on the desktop as required. The
problem is that these dissapear after the device is turned off, and
subsequently cold rebooted.

Is there an easy (I am not a developer) way around this. I have tried to
understand the recent threads on deleting shortcuts from the desktop but the
solution was a bit beyond me.

Thanks if you can give me a "Dummies Guide to.."
