We've got an XPe device that uses a PS-2 mouse during intial setup, and
connects to serial devices during operation. However, the PnP system
sometimes (not always) appears to be detecting this device as a mouse,
and popping up a notice about trying to install a serial mouse driver,
which fails because it's logged on as a limited user, who doesn't have
authority to install new hardware.
How can I completely prevent XPe from trying to detect serial mice
during startup and operation?
I have already put /fastdetect in the boot.ini, which is supposed to
prevent that during ntdetect, but I can't figure out how to stop PnP
from detecting it during OS startup. /noserialmice doesn't seem help it
(and I didn't expect it to, since that's supposed to only do anything
for NT)

I don't understand why "ipconfig/release" doesn't solve your problem. You
say "it remove(s) the lease on the server/router" which is a statement I
don't understand. It does remove the lease on the DHCP address but that is
exactly what you want since if the lease is removed or expired the DHCP
client will start with a discover rather than a request after the next boot.

Hi there, I am having problems resuming from standby. I select
Shutdown->standby and windows goes into standby without any problem. But it
doesn't wake up. I tried the same on XP Pro and it works fine. I compared all
the drivers and components in Device manager and I got all the necessary
components. Any suggestions ???
I am using AdvancedConfiguration and Power Interface, Windows Logon and
Explorer shell.
I checked the settins under Advanced Configuration and Power Interface,
System Page File - Enable pagefile support NOT selected
initial and max set to 0.
Power Management Settings
Enalbe Hibernation Support is CHECKED and the policy is set to Always On
Thanks

I have looked high and low for this book, with no luck. It appears to be out
of stock and out of print.
The only possible options I have seen are at a ridiculous cost of $500+, or
if you just happen to take a course from someone who might be stockpiling
what copies are left.
I can't believe that there are no XPe books available...
Anyone able to help?
Thanks.

Now, having downloaded this from MS in an attempt to obtain Windows PE, the
next step is required. It seems that what to do with this file is so obvious
that MS decided to NOT provide me the necessary information. I guess it
saves bandwidth if you don't include the obvious. I guess.Or perhaps knowing
what to do with it I would be able to find the instructions they provide.
But I do not know where to look. So.... any tips from the group?

I have an application running on an XP embedded platform. The operating
system is protected from being accessed directly by starting the application
at startup and having to use a password to exit the app, gaining access to
the OS. Task Manager has been disabled so the process etc can't be manually
ended.
I have since discovered that if a multimedia keyboard is plugged in to the
PC, the internet hotkey starts internet explorer and from here the OS can be
accessed. I haven't installed any additional drivers, I assume that by
default, the standard keyboard driver allows the hotkeys to work.
Is there a component that I should be adding, or removing to prevent this.
Thanks.

Hi,
It is one of my tasks to demonstrate in a few weeks this whole windows XP
Embedded shtick. Our target system is currently running a installed copy of
XP. It seems that the powers that be (not learning about XPe, just
managing.) believe all that is necessary is to build a full, not optimized
or size limited in any way, XPe image and put it on the target system and it
should run. Perhaps. And I am not knowledgeable enough yet (having spent
only 3 days getting a handle on this XPe thing) to know if this is a
practical approach for demo purposes. Words of wisdom will be appreciated.

Hi,
The Help files with my trial version of Windows XP Embedded say that I need
Windows PE to prepare my target system. It is told that this application is
on the install disk. My trial version was downloaded and installed from the
web. There is no "disk". Where do I get the copy of Windows PE that I need?

I just downloaded the August 2008 updates for XP Embedded, and don't see
any instructions as to how to incorporate them into image designer so
they can be put into a new image. Can someone give me, or point me to,
instructions for doing this?
Thanks!
