My understanding is that when I plug a new USB device into windows xp,
the device's serial number is polled and(if found), a series of
registry entries are created. Later when I install the driver for
this new device, the driver is associated with the serial number of
the device. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I have over 100 USB devices with unique serial numbers. Each time I
connect a new one, I'm required to re-install the driver. My intent
is to gather the serial numbers from the manufacturer and replicate
the registry entries created by a single driver install, for all the
other USB devices. Can this be done? Is there a better way?
Thanks in advance,
-Kevin

hey guys.
im new in developing device drivers.
my problem is that i want to write a driver which simulates
keyhits, like a virtual keyboard.
it must be a driver, it cant be the simple winapi, like sendkeys
oder sendmessage. there was a thread b4 with a similar name, but i
think this will be a bit different. ;) i hope so.
ive read and tried alot but nowhere in the inet is an exactly example
how to setup a keyhit, not even in the ddk src\input\kbdfilter or
i8042prt dir.
ive tried this.

Having problems with my bluetooth connection, I noticed that COM2 to
COM7 have disappeared.
Only remain LPT, COM1 and COM41 to 51.
Those COM41..51 coming from bluetooth drivers I installed in turn to
activate mes various bluetooth USB keys: curiously, COM numbering
keeps increasing by 11.
I tried removing COM1, expecting XP re-install the whole stuff
but it re-installed COM1 only.
Any idea? Thanks

Hi
I've found this problem w my just winxp re-installed laptop.
How do I fix this ??
Start Menu>Search>Files and Folders>
Error: "A file that is required to run Search Companion cannot be found. You
may need to run setup."
So I did this which did NOT work:
Run>regsvr32 %%systemroot%%\inf\srchasst.PNF
C:\WINDOWS\inf\srchasst.PNF is not an executable file and no registration
helper is registered for this file type.
cheers
Andrew

Hi there,
Running my brand new Vista, my CPU spikes at 100%%, which prevents me to do
anything. When I deactivate the pci.sys driver, the CPU comes back to a
normal activity, but my system is very unsteady.
I would like to know what is exactly this pci.sys driver. What is its goal ?
How can I find another version in the internet to try to fix my problem ?
Philippe

I obtained a 500 GB USB from Seagate four months ago. It was quite useful. I
had backed up 350 GB data on it before i now decided to check the data on
the drive. I had exposed all hidden files and upon checking the data, i
noticed some files that were not recognisable. I decided to delete these
files before i realised they were the Hard Drives system files. These files
had allowed the Hard Drive to bootup and be recognised from PC Computers and
Macs.
Please can you assist in advising me how to repair this hard drive.
Everytime i connect the hard drive to any pc either directly or otherwise, a
display comes up showing "No fixed drive found"
thanks.
