Setting video default on secondary displays

Hello. I'm hoping someone will be able to give me some ideas. We have all
of our Labs set in GP to hide the settings tab on displays. The hope is that
this will prevent unnecessary calls from people that do not know how to
readjust display settings. The issue with this is the primary display is
fine, but when someone hooks up a projector that was not originally in the
classroom design, it comes up as a secondary display and by default goes to
800x600, which is an issue with some of the material professors need to
present. Is there a way to set in windows the default resolution to 1024x768
for any display device? In the registry there is
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROL SET/CONTROL/VIDEO/, but there are
several sub keys under this and they appear to be unique to a system...
