Observer article 9/March/1997
Fame at last! In an alleged book review in the Observer (Books p16), Jay Rayner writes about a "man called Bob"
(one of my many pseudonyms) in whom "a lot of people have shown an interest". Read and ponder!

Perhaps the Chinese curse "may you live in interesting times" could be re-worded into "may you be considered an
interesting person". Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me!

RE: Building my dream stock market system

Author: michaewlewis

If I was trying to build a workstation that needed lots of horsepower and 4+
monitors I would buy a single computer for every two or three monitors and
tie them together with synergy <http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/>
Synergy lets you use one keyboard/mouse across as many computers as you want
over a network. And it's very light weight and not power hungry.

I don't know why a stock trading computer would need so much horse-power
though, but if it does, I'd go with an intel board with
3ghz
2gb ram
500gb SATA hard drive in raid1 or raid5 array
256mb dual head video card (ati or matrox)
a gigabit nic and switch/router
APC SmartUPS 1000XL

What programs are you planning on running on your super computer?
If you're just going to have websites open and stock trends open, you would
do fine with a 2ghz, 1gb ram, 120gb hard drive.

RE: mew user account

Peter,

An application is installed for either 'All Users' or the User who is
installing the application. The most application are installed for All Users.
This means that every user logging on to that computer is able to use the
application with all its installed features. However, the user is able to
configure its own settings, like for Office the Language setting, Menu
structure etc.

This means you can't distinguish between users regarding availability of
aplications. What you CAN do is prevent auto-start of items upon loggin on.

Logon with the specific user
START -> RUN
type MSCONFIG
select OK

Select Start-up (i think that is what it is called, last Tab)
and check/delete all items starting with HKCU

HKCU are items specific for that user, HKLM are items for the compter and
influence logging on for ALL users.

Hope this will help you out in some kind of way.

Greetz,

Yes, just install the printer-driver again, this will create a new icon.

As I said, drag it wherever you want it. Be persistent. It will move.
