Everywhere I turn things have slowed down dramatically. I am running WinXPpro
SerPk2, on a K7SPA VER 3.1 Elitegroup MOBO W/AMD XP 1800+ 1150~Mhz W/768
SDRAM, 1X40GB HD, 1X320GB HD in 3partitions(150GB, and 2X75GB's.) 1XPCI
firewire/usb 2.0 card, Ethernet, Intel 56k V92 Modem, ATI Radeon 700 XLpro
256MB DDR 3 RAM powered from MOBO and PS connection, on board sound and
Lan(lans disabled) that's the Gut of it.

THE QUESTION IS IN HERE:

I left the house the other day after doing an install of XP on a friends
computer and left the house with the streaming music playing on my computer
and the screen saver going. When I returned two hours later(I have done this
a dozen times atleast) the screen saver was going but the music was not
playing. When I click the mouse to have the screen saver stop "IT" started to
happen. The screen went blank then flickered back to my desk top with no
icons. I did a warm (=wrong) boot and the S hit th Fan. In the boot menue it
said my ATAPI devices were "incompatible" all of a sudden. I hit escape and
booted up to the everything but when I checked in, "My Computer" there were
no CD drives showing. Its been all down hill from there. That was 3 days ago,
I am now running a computer with no optical drives whatever, except for an
external USB CD-RW drive. Plus it took 10 hrs last time I ran scandisk on my
40GB Systems DRV and Defraged it. It actually only took 2hrs to defrag. Go
figure. Plus it just took me 1hr. and 10 minutes to backup my C:\ drv which
usually takes 9 to 15 minutes. What is going on?? Anybody know for sure?

The only thing for sure I know is that I am going to have to reinstall XP
again which mean I have to call those "wonderfull" people at Microsoft to
validate for what must be the 15 time! I should have waited the 30 days. Most
of the re-validates were in the first 30 days. There is a leason here for
anyone!

But, can anyone tell me what they think is going on here? My friend says, "I
have to much time on my hands." I do her computer work and she reaps all the
fruits of my mistakes. Everything I do for her turns to gold, here computer
is purring like a kitten.

Walrus, anybody?
