I get a failure every time I use the Windows Automated Update. This is a
fresh install of Windows XP Pro. w/SP2. Then I installed sp3. Then I
installed IE7.
The system is Genuine, so that is not the issue. If I download the files
individually, then I can install but I can't use the Automated Update.
Thanks

If I enabled "offline Files" option on a XP Pro machine but there is no
folder redirection or offline files GPO pushed from AD
1)will it make any folders offlie line available?
2)will it make folder redirection and sync? If so, where will it sync to?
3)I found some XP machine with "offline files" enabled and their "my
document", "application data", etc got created and synced under their home
folder. But in AD we don't have GPO set for that. Those PC were built by
image. Could be a registry there? Where is it?
Thanks.

I am able to create a VPN connection from home to my network at work.
However, I am not able to create a Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) to my
computer at work even though I am on the VPN. My home computer is part of my
home domain. If I try to create the RDC from home with another computer that
is not part of the domain, I am able to create an RDC. If I try to create an
RDC with my notebook (that is also part of my domain) when I try to connect
from somewhere else, like a hotel, I am also able to create an RDC.
I get the same results with computers that are XP or Vista.
At home I am using ISA Server as my firewall. the domain controller is W2K3
Enterprise.
I am not sure if the problem is with the configuration of ISA Server, a
group policy or some other setting.
Is there a setting or...

Two of my five computers will search only in Classic (W2k) mode. Use of "Use
Search Asst=Yes" makes no change in those two systems, although THATdoes work
in the three that search in XP mode with the companion. Have been running
this way for months now and have looked for and tried many suggestions to no
effect.
Thanks to any advice to get back to the Doggy in the Search Window!

I am going to try and be as detailed as I possibly can, given the limitations
of my computer knowledge....
I recently rebuilt a computer that I had originally bought from Alienware.
It was purchased at some time during 2002. When I rebuilt this computer I
purchased a new graphics card (VGA ASUS N7600GS SILENT/HTD/256M R), and a new
hard drive (WD 7K 8M ATA100 WD5000JBRTL). It's a 500G drive. My old hard
drive was 80G. It might be important to note that the old hard drive was
broken. This installation was done on the fresh hard drive, with the old 80G
drive and the old video card removed.
Anyway, when I first replaced everything I ran into the 137G barrier. Since
my Windows Restore CD was pre-SP1, the windows installation process didn't
recognize the full 500G. I installed Win XP onto that 137 partition and once
it was done I installed all updates, bringing me up to SP3. When I got all
of that done, I formated the remaining 300+G. This process made it into a
second partition. This was not by choice, but my only option. I didn't want
to have 2 separate partitions, but I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of
trying to fix and all was right with the world.
About 2 weeks later I decided I wanted to back up some of my DVDs onto my
hard drive. I downloaded a ripper, and when I went to rip I decided I would
put everything onto my larger, unused partition...

A machine with a single user local account and I am adding them to the
domain. After they were added to the domain, I logged on as
administrator(tried both local and domain) but the option to copy the users
local profile to the user domain profile is not available. I do have the
option to copy the user domain profile to the user local profile but I am
after the reverse.
So what's the method to copy a local to a domain profile?
Thank you.

I am hoping this is the correct discussion group - if not please feel free to
point me in the right direction.
Reference:
1) Select "(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London"
from the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time properties in Windows XP
2) Select "(GMT) Casablanca, Monrovia, Reykjavik" from the Time Zone tab in
the Date and Time properties in Windows XP
Question:
Why is #1 above UTC + 1 hour; I thought "Greenwich Mean Time" was synonymous
with UTC? Is this a Microsoft issue or is the "(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time:
Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London" currently set to BST (British Summer Time)?
Cheers,

hi, since installation of sp3 on xp i have the following issue:
i try to load a registry hive using a non-administrative account under
"HKEY_USERS" using regedit. And that succeedes.
then i try to unload just loaded registry hive and i get "access denied".
This error appeared since i installed sp3. it used to work fine before.
my software is loading registry hives, checks them for certain content and
then unloads them automatically, the sp3 access denied error prevents that.
win32 api regload/regunload give the same error as trying it manually from
regedit.
what do i do ? thanks in advance
