I know when I right click on the desktop, I should have the ability to
either show or no show the desktop top icons. Instead, when I do the
right click, I get a grayed out line that says "Show in groups" and
not the choice of show or no show the icons.
If anyone can help I would be greatly appreciated.

I am attaching a jpg of what I am actually looking at and maybe you

Again, thank you all for your assistance.

I want to thank everyone for their help, but changing the settings in
the registry did not help since the active/noactive statements where
in the registry to change.
If anyone has any other ideas, I am open to any suggestions at this
time.
Thanks again.

Policy settings can be set per-machine also. Check the following registry
key as well:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \
Policies \ Explorer

Ramesh,
Thank you for the help, but there was nothing there either. I am
starting to think that the only thing left to do would be to reformat
and start again. But, I think I will try a repair run first before a
reformat. I just happen to have a second drive that I can use so I
really won't be losing any programs on the reformat.
Thanks again.
