Currupt NTFS Partition

I reloaded XP and I have an external drive that XP can't read. The data is
there but XP can't read it. I had an data recovery companyt look at it and
they want mucho $$ to get my data. They said something about recreating some
file and recovering the data. Did some online searching and some results say
use Norton Utilities??? Any ideas?

Too little info to make any intelligent guesses. Norton, AFAIK won't
recover those files for you, but then you've given no information,
procedures, errors or anything else so it's anyone's guess about now.
