I read a few weeks back in the archives why XP is so much more
annoyingly "automated" as a default than Win98SE, etc. I'd realized
that when I first started working on friends' and family's XP since
over a couple of years ago. I've had my XP for several months now and
would like to start changing things so that they stick.
Unfortunately, though I saw the term, I wasn't sure that was the cause
of this "resetting" behaviour, but I'd like to get things like the
details view in WE to stay beyond each reboot, etc., etc.
Anyway, sorry for vagueness but I've searched and searched the
archives and I can't remember what this behaviour is called that I
absolutely must shut off. But it's what allows us to make registry
edits, file association changes and folder views in WE, etc., etc., so
that they stick to what _we_ determine and not what XP determines, and
so that our choices are adhered to _always_ beyond a reboot or beyond
a few weeks of use. Right now, eventually
-- sooner or later -- XP
always goes back to certain defaults no matter what I do.
Thanks. :oD

Hello. I have a few applications that load when Windows boots. I have
another account setup, and another instance of that program is also loaded
when the user logs on. What would be the easiest method for only allowing
the program to execute in the main account only? Any help is appreciated,
thanks!

That's the problem ... when the problem occurs, I can't close any programs.
I can sometimes switch between programs (sometimes) but however I tell the
program to close (Alt-F4, File:Exit, close button in top right) the program
just sits there and stares at me. Never goes away.

I have an 8 mo old XP Media Center machine, with IE7 & all Win updates
current. As I recall........shortly after allowing IE7 to install, I
noticed that my rather Large Favorites folder (including many subfolders)
was/is opening in expanded form. Granted, it is not a Problem......but is
quite irritating. I've searched Help & the web to no avail........perhaps
not hitting upon the correct 'key words'. Can someone suggest a method to
show the Fav folder in it's Minimized form.......with - signs turned to +
signs & hiding subfolders?
TIA,
Carol2

I have a colleague who insists that you MUST select "apply" before closing
(OK, Save, Close...etc.) a dialog box when making changes. His stance is that
not "applying" first will/could cause problems.
My stance: The apply button is for the convenience of applying a change
without exiting the dialog box when you are not done with your options. You
can select Ok, Save, Close, whatever the case may be without "applying" first.
Opinions :)
