Author: Cows With Guns

I recently reloaded my computer. I'm now trying to drag an icon from the
desktop to the task bar. When I put in on the task bar I get a
"notification" Circle with a line thru it. A "You Can't Do This"

I was able to do this prior to reloading my computer. What Do I need to
change?

  Firmware update

Author: Rainy
Date: Dec 31, 2007 18:55

I recently purchased DVD-R's and discovered that Nec the manufacturer of my
DVD Drive does not support HP brand DVD-R but will support DVD+R! The
person I purchased the DVD Disks from (EBAY) is suggesting I get a firmware
update which may or may not correct the problem..

If a tech here says this is ok to do.. I will attempt this.. (I always check
with this group before I attempt something I have never done before) My
question is, is there something else I could do to safeguard my computer
before I start?

http://support.necam.com/optical/downloads/flashfirmware/readme.asp?ID=4

I have discovered that the DVD drive in question is the master, and know I
must disable the slave before I attempt this.. and I'm familiar with Device
Manager..

Any help appreciated, TIA Rainy

Ps. I have come across other DVD's which do not seem to be compatible with
my DVD so fixing this would be a good thing for me..

  Full C Drive

Author: BEEDEE
Date: Dec 31, 2007 10:01

Hi. I had a person set up my computer so that I have a C drive for the
important stuff, and a D drive for everything else. Needless to say, C drive
is now full and cannot defrag, and D drive is 75%% empty. What is the best
way to transfer information from C drive to D drive so I can defrag.
Also asking me to chkdsk before I defrag, and I can't find this command
anywhere. Any suggestions? If I transfer files from C drive to D drive, do
I run any risk of not being able to access these files later if they are not
esential files?
Thanks

  CD-RW driver service disabled (Mysteriously)

Author: Lu Powell
Date: Dec 31, 2007 09:00

All of a sudden, I'm getting the following message on my Properties
window for my CD-RW drive:

"A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate
driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

It doesn't show up in Windows Explorer, and does appear in
Administrative Tools->Device Manager with a yellow trouble icon.

Uninstalling, then allowing rebooting and having Windows detect, then
re-install does not improve the situation.

I'm running XP Home on a Dell desktop machine.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You report it to "abuse" at the ISP of the sender, not microsoft.
