  How recovery function works?

Well, in my job site there is a computer that one monday it didin't start
normally, I turning on and I wait like for 30 min. Nothing. The only window
was the hp main window with the option F1, F10 so I choose F10, I did choose
the backup option. Works perfectly. I got in to the computer, I have to
re-install Windos XP, all the software I had before. I am do not if I did
right. I just need to work and fast. Second of all, the old files I can find
them. There is a partition with the word recovery. So my questions are do I
have run something to have access to the old files? if a run it do I lose all
the new information, even the new version of my account software?, Basically
I don't know how the recovery function works.

thank you.

  OS and my lap top

I am writing to all of you because I am facing a problem that am not
able to solve, and ..is killing my lap top.

I have problems with my Compaq Note book, Presario 715 US and the
operating system

It crashed and I was not able to get back it to life again. Compaq has
3 CDs that are necessary to conduct what they call Quick Restore.
In those CDs there are the drivers, among them ... the Cd-Rom Driver.

If you do a Quick Restore Procedure you obtain a system in the same
status when was it delivered from factory. It is not
working because one of the Cds is corrupted. So, drivers are not
transferred and .... by example the cd-rom does not read. Cause of it
..I cannot insert any other Windows operating system or any bootable
Cd, because they are not recognized. I am seeing how my lap top is
dying because there is no support for it. I am also sure something
happened with the C: partion because many people was fooling around
trying to recover the system.
