Every time I go to start > programs > windows update from my vista home premium computer, I get error 80004002.

Also, in this event, it doesn't effect getting defender updates through windows defender.

Try this it worked for me
Re-register the Windows Update DLL with the commands below:
1. Click on 'Start', choose 'Run'. In the open box, type cmd, and then click
'OK'.
2. Type the following commands. Press 'ENTER' after each command:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
Try Updating Windows.

I have a similar problem. When I try to run Windows Update I get the error
code 80004002. I have tried the solution suggested above twice, but with the
same result as payne11@ up.edu and SRV1N and . Would be great to get some help
on the issue.

I get the same error, with the same results as above, any other ideas, why
doen't microsoft have this error listed??????
