I need to deliver 10-minute video segments to mobile devices as part of an
enterprise content delivery system, and I need help determining which
Microsoft products I need to get the job done.
The content will be download only, not streaming, and must be protected
using Microsoft's DRM. I have read about Windows Media Services, Windows
Media Encoder, and Windows DRM.
What I have read up until now leads me to believe that:
1) I do not need Windows Media Services, since there is no streaming
involved.
I will only need Apache (or other HTTP server) to provide links to the
content.
2) I will need both a Windows Media Encoder to encode content in WMV format,
and a DRM Server to handle the rights and licensing. I also understand that
the Windows Media Encoder will integrate directly with the Windows DRM to
wrap media in a DRM envelop so that we don't have to write software to do
this.
3) The client, a mobile Windows Media Player, will take care of the rest -
contacting the license server and requesting the key for the content. All I
need to do is provide Windows Media Player with a link to the content.
