Like apparently quite a few others, I'm having trouble getting access based enumeration to work. This is using a DFS setup on Server
2008 (standard). Basically, all the "component" shares in the DFS share I set up are visible to all users all the time. They can't
access folders they don't have rights to, but the folders themselves are still visible.
Is there an "official" how to for setting the permissions correctly? I gather one has to be careful about what permissions are
granted to both the share and the links in the DFS root. But I'm not clear on just what they should be.

I am running a DFS on Server 2008, accessed from Vista SP1 clients. The (root?) DFS share is mapped to a drive on the clients.
Every once in a while (several times a day) the client will complain that a file it has open on the DFS share is not accessible.
Drilling down through Vista's Network applet lets me access the DFS share as if nothing had happened.
Eventually
-- within a few minutes -- the problem goes away. But it is annoying, and I'd like to resolve it.

When i restore the folders from backup to a 2008 server the share on each
folder is not maintained. I am using symantec 11d for backup. is this a
server 2008 issue? I can reshare the folder and it works, but i have 500 to
do.

Hello Bruno,
Thanks for replying.
I do not think I change my DFS mode back to 2000 after upgrading to 2008
(unless I rebuild my domain). :-(

You can define file filter for your replicated folder. So if you define file
filter for *.xls then none of the Excel file would replicate.
You can do it through DFS Management Snap in.
1. Go to Replication Group.
2. Go to Replicated Folder tab.
3. Click on Replicated folder that will pop up properties page.
4. You can define File Filter.

I currently have a Win 2K server with about 300GB of data in a file share,
that i want to migrate to a better server running Win 2K3 at a remote
location. What i think would be best would be if i could set up a constant
replication/syncing of the data from my current server to the old one, so any
changes made on old would be reflected on new. Then one evening after
everyone is done with the old server, i would stop that file share, and point
everyone's shortcuts to the new share. how could i best accomplish this? or
another option would be to have it sync both ways and i can just slowly move
users over one by one to the new server until they are all on it, then stop
the file share on the old server. thanks in advance for the help.

Is it better to configure member servers, or DC's as DFS W2K8 (Native Mode)
DFS Namespace servers?
I am in conflict with a colleague who is intent on using DC's, however my
preference is to install the DFS Services (incl DFS Namespaces & DFS
Replication services) on member server F&P servers, rather than DC's....
Any recommendations, suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hello,
I am trying to recreate a DFS replication group with 3 members (hub &
spoke). 2 members seem to be fine, but one is causing a problem.
In the replication group setup, in the Add member step, I get the error
CCYV-WIKI: The DFS Replication subscriber object cannot be created in Active
Directory: A value in the request is invalid.
When I'm adding this member, it can find the server & the folders to be
replicated, without problem. I am logged in as a domain admin on the "hub"
computer. The other 2 members are in different domains (all part of the same
forest), but the user I'm logged into has domain admin rights on the other
domains.
Does anyone know where I can start looking to find out what this error is?

Hi all,
We have a Windows 2003 domain running with two 2003 DCs running at 2 sites
(CORP & COLO). I have a 2003 file server at the CORP site and i have folder
re-direction enabled via GPO to re-direct user's documents to a file share
on the file server. To increase the redundancy and availability of the
user's documents file share I want to procure a 2nd file server at the COLO
site & then migrate the existing file share to a DFS file share replicating
between these 2 file servers and then change the GPO to re-direct to the DFS
file share instead. This way if 1 file server goes down, users can still
access their documents via the other file server.
My question is can I install Server 2008 on the new file server at the COLO
site? Will that cause any compatibility issues with DFS etc. not working
because the other file server is 2003?
TIA!

Hi,
Here is my problem in a nutshell. After making changes to DFS folders and
targets, I can read, write, and access files and folders fine by UNC
(\\DC1\share-name). But when I try to access them via the DFS root structure
path (\\domain\dfsroot\folder), I cannot create files or folders or even see
files and folders that were created in that folder directly on the server.
Can anyone tell me why this would have happened just from making some
changes to the DFS structure?
If you need to see the details, please read on:
I have 2 locations and am running Server 03 Std R2 SP2 at both, but the
32-bit at one location and 64-bit at the other. I have been successfully
using DFS and FRS to replicate files between the two over a site-to-site VPN.
However, on two different occasions, I have made a change to a DFS folder
and afterwords have had problems.
Initially this was the setup, identical on both servers:
\\domain\dfsroot\Folder
with targets
\DC1\{path}\Folder
\DC2\{path}\Folder
