Thank you! Unfortunately, I already tried that one a couple dozen times .
I've also made sure "read in plain text" isn't checked, I have Java enabled -
I've combed through every command I can think of that might be causing this
but I'm thinking it must be a registry error. I'm hesitant to re-install OE,
though, I do *not* want to lose all my mail, folders, address book etc. again!

I hate it when computers act like people.....

You might add IE to that list.

NB: If it's a Security Update for Windows, chances are a reboot will be
required.

I close all programs before doing any updates (I'm configured to be
notified; I go to Microsoft Update myself). I have three computers running
WinXP fully updated. Here's what happened with the latest update:

desktop computer, XP Home, needed to restart
laptop computer, XP Pro, needed to restart
netbook, XP Home, didn't need to restart

did not recover Inbox with renaming procedure

Author: amstoryteller

While compacting I lost my files. Recovered the .bak files in Recycle bin.
but my main Inbox file was not restored. I may have had OE open when I tried
this procedure. The file I renamed 'inboxold1' is still there but I don't
know what to do restore to original Inbox? Help
