  Problem installing a scanner

Author: Sunny Burger
Date: Jul 16, 2008 16:45

OS: Win 2000 SP4 with all new security updates

PC: AMD Athlon 4200+ Dual Core
2 GB Ram, NTFS

Scanner: Canon Canoscan 4400F - is always installed as "Unknown Device" and cannot be used.

I have tried everything one could possibly imagine: installed driver, then scanner, then I tried vice versa, I tried removing all
other USB devices (in case there might be a conflict) and also removed all other USB-related software and cleaned the registry. I
tried different USB slots. Nothing helped.

I also did a virus scan - nothing.

What is really strange: When I try to do the installation via clicking "Add an Imaging Device" in CP/Scanner & Camera. nothing
happens - just absolutely nothing.

Can anybody help?

Thanks.

Sunny

mechanical problem with Microsoft wireless optical mouse 2.0

My Microsoft wireless optical mouse 2.0 seems to have a mechanical problem.
When I roll the center scrolling wheel it often clicks without my pushing
down on it. Sometime I'll be scrolling and it will stick in scrolling mode
and keep scrolling even when I remove my finger. When this happens an small
image/icon shows up on the screen and stays there until I click and stop
this unwanted scrolling. It's acting like there is a contact point that is
out of alignment and is closing a contact unnecessarily.

There is some kind of mechanical problem and I haven't seen a way to take
apart the mouse to try to fix it. Has anyone ever tried to do this...are
there any solutions for this?

John

  can't access USB HDD

Author: Neil
Date: Jul 9, 2008 02:03

Used spaceI run a network with Win 2K clients & a Win 2K server.
I have an external USB HDD which works fine on a pc running Windows 2K Pro
However when I connect the USB HDD to my server it shows up in 'Device
Manager' ok, but when I go into 'My Computer' it shows with a red
exclamation mark.
If I try & access it i get a message saying it is unaccessible or the folder
has been moved or removed.
If i try & go to the device properties all I get is the'General' tab with
the following:-
Local Disk
File system Unknown
Used space 0 bytes
Free space 0 bytes.

Connecting the same USB HDD to a Win 2k Pro pc the disk is accessible as
normal.

Any suggestions please?

Hi,
My friend is having a problem with his works computer...
On boot-up,an error comes up saying "No Operating Sytem".....

I said i'd take a look,so attached it to an external USB hard drive mount
and tried to access his important data...
It doesn't appear as a mass storage device on either 2000,XP or Vista....

On disk management in Vista it shows up but says the drive is not
initialized...
When i try to initialize the drive it states the error "Could not initialize
due to an I/O error"

XP or 2000 cannot read the disk this way either?

Any thoughts on this problem?
Has he lost all data?

many thanks,
dAVE

USB attached printer cannot be safely unplugged

Author: banjo
Date: Jun 21, 2008 08:06

I'm using Windows 2000 Server SP4.

When I plug my Epson Stylus Photo R360 USB cable into the server
almost the only visible sign of anything happening is the appearance
of "Removable Disk G:" in Windows Explorer.

There is no "remove icon" on the task bar.
Device Manager shows "USB Composite Device on USB 2.0 Bus".
The Hardware Wizard does not list the device for removal.

If I add a USB Drive to the server the "remove icon" appears but still
does not list the printer for removal.

Apart from all this the printer works perfectly with every application
I've tried including Office, Paint shop Pro, Epson Status progs, etc.

The only problem is that it seems to be impossible to switch off or
unplug the printer without getting "Unsafe Removal of Device".

Help!
