iSCSI and SATA Disk ?

We would like to know whether iSCSI always use SATA disk ?

Besides, in a Disk Enclosure, is it possible for us to have both SCSI and
SATA disk ?

Thanks

No, iSCSI is a protocol which connects to Storage platforms, many vendors
have many different architectures for the actual disks.

It depends on your Storage platform you have, most storage vendors can
support multiple disks types in their storage, but you should really direct
this question to your storage vendor, or let us know what storage you are
using, there might be someone out here who knows the answer.

Dear Edwin,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

At the present moment, we are using EMC CX3-20 SAN. We only get a single
Disk Array Enclosure. We would like to consider purchase another DAE and
add some more HD.

However, due to the budget, we consider using iSCSI.

If the DAE allow both type of HD, I believe that it will not support both
TCP/IP (for iSCSI) and FC.

Thanks
Patrick

I believe the EMC CX range can have FC disks and SATA disks but not in the
same enclosure, and not in the first enclosure.
In regards the iSCSI support, that depends on the exact type of CX3-20 you
have, there are types that support both FC as well as iSCSI.

I guess best thing to do is to talk to your EMC (or partner) to get more
info on all the possibilities you have

HTH,
Edwin.
