Corrupt LDF file

I am looking for any tools capeable of repairing or recover data from a
corrupt (LDF) log file. I have a situation where my mdf and ldf files were
damaged after a hard drive failure. I was able to recover data from the
damaged (mdf) data file however not all of the information was recovered.
The (ldf) log file is twice the size of the (mdf) file and I believe the
missing data is in that ldf file and was not committed to the mdf file
before the hardware failure. Unfortunately there is no backup. Therefore I
am wondering if there is any way I can recover or retrieve any information
from that LDF file. If anyone knows of or can suggest anything that may work
please reply to this post.

Regards,
John G.

You might want to try tools from ApexSQL, Lumigent or Red-Gate (note that
the latter is free but 2000 *only*... you didn't bother to tell us which
version this is, so it may or may not be relevant / worth a shot):

http://www.apexsql.com/sql_tools_log.asp

http://www.lumigent.com/products/log_explorer.html

http://www.red-gate.com/products/SQL_Log_Rescue/index.htm

However, I am not sure whether any of them can work with a log file that is
not attach-able. I have used them to reverse transactions from online log
files but never to recover data from an offline log file that is corrupt.

(You also might now want to consider implementing some kind of disaster
recovery solution. Regular backups would be a good start. Unfortunately,
most people wait until the first time they get hosed before they consider
this an important part of planning and development.)
