Forgive the cross post please, but I thought this might have better
luck here in the setup group.
We rebuilt an old production box to become the QA box. Fresh OS
install and SQL Install, SQL 2000 Std, SP3A. Whenever the box
startsup, the service manager is on the quicklaunch bar, until I mouse
over it, then it disappears. If I then try and start it manually, it
tries to start, I get an hourglass, then it just dies. This is on a
firewall not on a domain. I have tried running SQL under both
LocalService and a designated computer account that has local admin
rights. none of the above has helped.
Google brings up numerous posts on it, but I see no resolutions so
far.
Has anyone else been able to fix this?
TIA!
