I am trying to install SQL Server Express 2008 and the Database Engine
Services and SQL Server Replication both fail every time.

I am trying a local install on a laptop for testing - Windows XP 3. I am
logged in as a user with local admin rights.

I keep getting a message box that access is denied.

Here is the error log text. Any help is greatly appreciated:

Overall summary:
Final result: SQL Server installation failed. To
continue, investigate the reason for the failure, correct the problem,
uninstall SQL Server, and then rerun SQL Server...

I get this exact same error - can't figure out why. I get it when the
Setup support files are installed.

Did you investigate the "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup
Bootstrap\Log\20080821_192606\Detail.txt" file which is pointed in the
following summary?

Same problem here as well. It's only with XP. I tried it first with SP2 and
then updated to SP3 and it did the same thing. I've successfully installed
it on Vista.

I had to re-run the install and got the problem again - of course. The log
file it creates is huge. Below are a few tidbits I was able to pull out, but
they don't tell me much:

2008-09-11 16:31:59 Slp: Condition "Feature dependency condition for action:
AgentScriptConfiguration_install_rc_Cpu32 The condition tests feature:
SQL_Engine_Core_Inst_sql_engine_core_inst_Cpu32. There...

When the SQL Server 2008 Setup runs, it checks system requirements. Details
are closed by default. Is there any possibility that your system does not
meet the minimum requirements for a SQL Server 2008 installation? Or maybe
you are trying to install a x64 version of SQL Server 2008 on a x86 system?

Because, from the following error messages it seems that it mostly complains
about the CPU related stuff. Just a guess.
