Unable to view images etc in emails

Date: Aug 22, 2008 10:36

Hello, I have recently re-installed Outlook 2003 and find that when I
receive emails which contain images or logos etc, all I see are (almost)
empty cells containing a small box with a red X in the top left hand
corners. Can someone please advise me what I need to change in order to view
the entire content of the email?

TIA

Many thanks for the link. When I looked at the web page, I noticed the bit
which said "even though you have Outlook configured to download external
content" and realised that I had not done that or even knew how to do it.

I then scoured through the Tools>Options in Outlook and eventually found and
clicked on the "Security" Tab. I then noticed the "Download Pictures"
section and I clicked on the option to "Change automatic Download
Settings" - Unticking the "Don't Download Pictures" box means that all now
works well.

Thanks again for the link which resulted in me finding the solution - I am
grateful

Cheers

Didn't the boxes with the red x say to right click here to download
pictures?

That also means that, by default from now on, that you will also be
downloading web beacons used by spammers to track if and when you open
their spewage. The reason for blocking the external content (until and
if you want to see it) is to prevent covert tracking of when you open an
e-mail along with the advantage of not wasting the time and bandwidth to
wait for the download of images that you don't care about.

The default setup is to block externally linked content.

They must have been small images - this is what it looks like when there is
room for text. It tells you to right click in both the images and in the
infobar in the message header area.
