Outlook 2003 is crippled - I can not create a rule.

I can not create any new rules. The menu option is not there. The
program frequently freezes and I have to close it from the Task
Manager. There are other problems with it but I can't be bothered to
list them all.

Prior to Outlook 2003 I had Outlook 2000 installed but that was rubbish
too.

I have WinXP pro installed on a new computer here, with all updates for
Windows, Office and .Net installed.

Is there another email client I can use which will synchronize with
Exchange?

I forgot to mention. This PC has McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5.0i
installed. Must I get rid of that? It may be quite hard to do as
McAfee was installed by the network manager who gave me this PC with a
base O/S installed on it onto which I have put .net, VS2008 and all my
other tools.

Have you done a detect and repair from help? or a re-install from the Control
Panel?
Remember the simple things first in troubleshooting.

Not true. An Exchange account should be all that's needed, if your mailbox
is on the server.

...and you can use virtually all email clients with Exchange, but the only
way to get full Exchange functionality is with Outlook.
