Did you have to create a rule in Norton firewall (and/or ZoneAlarm) that
allows Outlook access to the internet? (e.g. say cleared it by its
executable name of outlook.exe.) The reason that I ask is that some
programs build a "hash" on executable and this hash would have changed with
this updated.

Outside of that, I generally suggest that one uninstall the security
products (e.g. Zonealarm and Norton) and fall back to just a clean XP with
the Windows firewall on. Add each security product one at a time and
configure it accordingly since these products control network activity
and/or can scan e-mail in real-time as it is sent/received.

Tried posting in the MS Update discussion group, but have received no
answers there yet. Here goes:After I applied the 5 updates on Wed 1/10/07,
my Outlook 2003 running under
XP SP2 behind ZoneAlarm and a Norton firewall would not pick up from or send
mail to any of the 3 mail servers I use. It made the network connection but
would not register any response from the mail servers. By uninstalling and
reinstalling one-by-one, I found the troublesome update to be Security
Update
for Outlook 2003 KB924085. Anyone else having this problem, or have insight
into what the cause & cure might be?Kevin

I did try to "re-permission" Outlook.exe in my ZoneAlarm, but that did not
solve the problem. I am very leery of disabling ZA: it's been a very trusty
(if somewhat resource hogging) piece of S/W over the years. So any solution
that involves disabling it will be a last resort, rather than a first
resort. Thx for your reply.
