Usually the result of scanning incoming and/or outgoing mail with a
misbehaving antivirus scanner.

Then I suspect it's the that law firm's problem, but make sure you're not
contributing. Do NOT scan mail with an antivirus scanner. You will not be
more vulnerable as long as your AV program's on-access scanner continues to
operate.
