How to delete a contact list

I'm unschooled in Outlook's (2003) inner workings. A colleague asked how to
add a new contact list because his was becoming unmanageable. I figured out
how to add a new list and made a dummy contact list with no entries. Now
that he is off and running, I want to get rid of the dummy contact list from
my address book. I deleted the dummy from the "All folders" pane of Outlook
but it still shows up in the Address Book "Show Names from the:" dropdown
list. I assume this dummy has been written into the Registry or an Outlook
configuration file. How does one delete an unwanted contact list? Thanks
to anyone who can steer me to the obvious. Rick

Hey, I warned you I was unschooled!
The way this corporate Outlook is set up if you click Address Book:
1. Address Book opens which, in addition to icons, menus, and listing of
currently entered names of the default address list
(Tools-->Options-->Addressing-->Show this address list first-->List chosen
from drop down), the Address Book has a text-tile on the left labeled "Type
name or select from list" and a drop down control on the right labeled "Show
names from the".
2. The address lists available from the drop down, again for this
installation, are "Outlook Address Book" which has below and indented
"Contacts", "Global Address List", and "All Address Lists" which has below
and indented "All Contacts", "All Groups", "All Users", and "All Public
Folders". I have no idea how many of these are creations of the person who
configured this installation.
3. I mistakenly thought "Contacts" was a default address list created by
Outlook during installation and would be familiar.
4. In the Folder List, All Folders pane of Outlook, my Mailbox tree includes
a Contacts folder. This contains the names I see in the Address Book drop
down labeled "Contacts".
5. In the tree pane I tagged the Contacts folder and chose New folder from ...

Try Tools | Account Settings and then follow the prompts to get to the
address book settings. Once you bring up the properties for the Outlook
Address Book, you should be able to remove that list. If not, remove the
Outlook Address Book completely, restart Outlook and add it back in.

Just remove the invalid reference here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
