I have somehow erased all my contacts from Outlook when I was trying to
activesync with a windows mobile device. Any ideas plese about whether I can
retrieve the data from somewhere?

Changes made by synchronization are generally not reversible. That's why
anyone who uses synch software creates frequent backups of their data.
Restore from your most recent backup.
