Can I export contact information from Public Folders

Contact information in our Public Folders is organized by assigning
categories to individual contacts.

I would like to export contact information for the members of 1 category to
excel. I can view by category in outlook, but is there a way for me to
export the data to excel?

This is based on Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007.

The only way I have been able to make it work is to first change your
'Contacts' view to 'group by category'. Next, right click on the category
name and select 'move to folder'. Choose 'new' to set up a new Contact
folder -name it the category name. It will create under your main 'Contact'
folder. From there you can export it to an Excel file by using File, Import
and Export.

Thank You. Will the contacts be actually moved or merely copied?

The Outlook export wizard doesn't let you export from Public Folders.

You may find one of these two options of interest (there are some others):

#1) This free utility should solve your problem especially if this is either
a
one-time or casual requirement (product not related to us - provided for
info only)
http://www.codetwo.com/pages/freeware/outlook_export.php

#2) In the event you require more advanced features - you can review our
export product options which includes simultaneous multiple folder export
available in either CGX Adv or Prem editions (not free) here:

Don't bother exporting anything. DIsplay your contacts in a table with,
select the range you want, and paste it into Excel.

Don;'t export or mess around with moving - if you need to use outlook data
in other program, create a view with the fields you need in the other
program and copy and paste (paste special, as text). It works with any
application that accepts paste.

Just one caveat that's worth noting regarding the "cut 'n paste" solution
and that is the number of items ultimately involved in the process. Have
found that Outlook can get particularly unhappy for large numbers (don't
know what the actual number is) and throwing "out of memory" errors or
causing addins to throw out error messages (i.e. OutlookSpy is one case in
point). Doesn't appear to have anything to do with how well endowed the
system itself is in terms of memory etc. Have run across this on more than
one occasion so it's certainly not a fluke occurrence nor is it related to
any specific version of Outlook since have had it occur on all versions
between O'2000 - O'2007. To be more exact however, the errors occurred when
highlighting the items ultimately intended for deletion...
