Added contacts disappearing

Date: Oct 23, 2007 07:58

I have been having troubvle with newly added (and saved) contacts
disappearing from the Contacts folder. I will complete;y add a new contact
only to find out later that the contact doesn't appear at all in the folder.

Has anyone experienced this? How do you fix it?

You must provide at least some information. You provided none. A minimum
would include:
1. Outlook version
2. Information store
3. Method used to create Contact
4. Whether you have ever been able to create Contacts. If so, what steps did
you take that lost that ability?

i'm having the same issue and i found several threads on this subject. I
gave a slightly lengthier explanation of what's happening to me in this
post:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public...
(rather than cross-posting)

in case links don't work, search for the thread "Disappearing contacts in
Outlook Contacts"

i would love any help with this - thanks!

No need to post three times The fact that your problems arise when you sync
two different versions of Outlook against the same Exchange mailbox adds a
great deal more complexity to your issue and requires that you post much
clearer detail in an Exchange group.

sorry - thought that i was the good guy for not starting a fourth thread on
the same subject. still learning my msg board etiquette, apparently.

Clarify this statement. It is far too vague:
"When I look up the new record immediately after creating it,
it appears in mylist of contacts as it should."
Make sure you specify the view to which you are referring in no uncertain
terms.

What I mean is that since I've had this problem of the records disappearing,
I routinely check to see if the record is still in the general list
immediately after creating the record. It is at first. Then a few minutes
later it is no longer there.

I don't know how else to characterize it, really.

It's maddening to have the records disappear regularly, not to mention the
fact that I can't really use the contact management functionality until I
figure this out.

Please just use the clear terms I requested so someone with more time than I
have can help you. No one could have any idea what you are doing. How could
anyone but you know what you mean by "the general list?"
There is way for anyone to reproduce a situation where Outlook does this.

Russ, if I have somehow offended or upset you in some way, I apologize
sincerely.

I truly thought I was being clear. I am very sincere in my desire to get
to the bottom of my problem.

What can I do from here?

Has anyone else run into this situation in Outlook 2003 where you cannot
find recently created new contact records in the Contacts database,
reagrdless of which view you choose (Address Cards, Detailed Address Cards,
Phone list, etc.,)? I cannot find the newly created records by searching for
them within the Contacts database (by using the "Look for" and "Search In"
boxes at the top of the screen below the toolbars) either.

I appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Thanks.

The only times I've seen it are end user error, not Outlook malfunction. End
users will often lose track of Contacts when they create them incorrectly,
such as through the address book interface or in the wrong folder. That's
why detailed steps of what you are doing and the changes made to your
profile before the problem arose are essential to solving this.
