Colors and Categories don't archive OL07

When I archive my Calendar, it clears the colors and categories. Everything
displays the same color.

Clarification. My first description was wrong. Actually, what appears to be
happening is that all my Uncategorized (light blue) appts are transferred to
the archive "Calendar in Archive Folders" properly, but any appts that have a
color/category assigned are not transferring into the archive. The only
difference between the two types of appts is that I color/categorized some.
How do I get those into the archive?

archive uses the modified date - applying categories or doing other things
will change the modified date. You can add the modified date field to the
view so you can see what the modified date is.

Thanks, Diane. The modified date provided the clue I needed. All of my color
labeled appointments that should be archiving now show a modified date of
3.20.2008...which was the date I installed Office 2007 with Outlook2007.

So, that suggests that when OL2007 updated my colors, categories etc. using
my 2003 data, it changed all my modified dates. Not a very nice "surprise".
Guess I will have to wait 6 months out from 3.20.08 (or shorten my archiving
schedule) to see those finally archived.

I wonder if I change a category manually now (color or rename), will it
change the modified date on all previously categorized items? I hope not. I
better do a test.

Changing the color shouldn't affect the items as the color is stored only in
the Master Category List. But if you rename a category in the Master
Category List, Outlook 2007 updates all of the assigned items, and that
changes the LastModifiedDate of course.

Thanks for that info, Michael. I tested both color and renaming and saw them
behave just as you stated.

However, I am still wondering what Outlook design reasons there may be for
someone to need/want the archive to be based on LastModifiedDate of items,
rather than using the date we assign to the items. This is kind of a "by
design?" question, now. Any insights?

Maybe because most people don't want to assign a date manually and rather
have it archived automatically. You're now affected in an unwanted way only
because you updated all or most of your items, but that's not normal and you
don't do it every week. You can change the settings once to archive items
older than a few days, and then go back to your preferred setting.
