Why does OneNote run when I haven't installed it

Why does OneNote show up on my Task Manager as a process running when I have
never installed it?

Why, when I clicked on OneNote.exe, does it ask me to input my ID number (as
if I were installing a new component of Office) yet OneNote shows up on my
Task Manager as running?

Why, when I attempted to run all the OneNote files through a file shredder,
do I get an error message that first says "unable to shred this file," and
then when I look at those files, there is nothing in them? Yet they still
show up in a search for files with the word OneNote in the name.

Lastly, when I try to use the file shredder to delete two Prefetch files
with names such as Prefetch.exe.20C20F4E, I get an error message that says,
"Failed to delete file, Access is Denied." I have full admin privileges, am
running the computer as Admin. When I opened that Prefetch file in NotePad,
I get interesting code at the bottom of that file. I will be the first to
say I don't know what I am looking at, and I would appreciate the wisdom of
anyone who can expla

Well, it must be installed on the machine if it's running - perhaps
you've just never used it. Have you tried simply going to Control Panel
| Add/Remove Programs and uninstalling it? (assuming you don't want it)

Thanks for the reply.

I know that this defies all the laws of computer operation, but it's not on
the program list when I go to Add/Remove programs. So, my computer tells me
it's not there, but there it is running on task manager.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

If you have Microsoft Office Ultimate, or Microsoft Office Home and Student
edition, then the software gets installed from those programs. If you want
to uninstall, you'll have to do it through the Microsoft Office programs in
the add/remove programs.
