Jerry,
I do this daily using Microsoft's free SyncToy program to syncronize my My
Documents folder between my Desktop and Notebook. Have been doing ths with no
problems ever since OneNote 2007 was released and I discovered SyncToy.
Hope this helps,
Michael

This put the alarm bell on . So - in a hurry at 02 AM - in short:
Sorry to say so, But IMO this is not the best way of doing things with
OneNote. OK for other data, but not for ON.
Why?
The SyncToy works on a *file*-sync basis.
This way one overwrites the files an by this kills everything which has
been edited/changed/added on the other computer.
OneNote has a really fantastic synchronization built-in.
This in fact means *replication* and takes care of all changes on each
computer.

Rainald,
Thanks for your advice. I admit that if you use SyncToy you must make sure
you don't change the files one both systems between syncs or you screw things
up. It only works for me because I only use one computer at a time. Just
before I leave for the office I run SyncToy to syncronize the systems and
then use my notebook all day. When I get home I do this again first thing and
then only use my desktop until I leave for the office the next day and thus
far have had no problems. However as you mentioned, there is indeed the
potential for loss of data if I forget what I'm doing.
I do like your suggestion thou and feel this would be a much better
approach. How would I go about implementing this? I have 20 or so Notebooks
allready with numerous folders and passages. Is the approach you suggested
something that can be implemented at any time or is it something that has to
be implemented when you first set up a notebook? Are there some good
tutorials on how to use this capability?
Thanks again for the suggestion and advice. Always more to learn.

Not only that. It requires a lot more discipline and means unnecessary
attention and action.
Working with ON's fantastic synchronization is ways easier, comfortable
and secure.
And you could work on both computers at the same time (f.e.: I often
have my TabletPC as a slate on my desk. I can jump to it and do things
there; each change made on either machine will automatically appear on
the other within seconds).

Thanks Rainald . I will be discontinuing using SyncToy for syncing OneNote
between the desktop and notebook and follow your suggestion as soon as I
learn how to do it.
I will want the desktop to be the main computer but assume I will need to
move my file locations for OneNote to somehwere other than My
Documents\OneNote Notebooks since I still need to use SyncToy for the time
being to keep to sync My Documents so that my sermons, bible studies, word
documents, spreadsheets, etc., are syncronized between my desktop and
notebook.
Another question about using the methode you mentioned, do the two computers
sync when the two computers are connected or when OneNote is opened?
Thanks for all your advice,
Michael

Great.
As said: There is not much to learn.

Good Catch!
Very valid point.
Having ON notebooks inside some other synching mechanisms (automatic
synching, "Offline Files" etc.) would be a deadly sin.

Hi Rainald.
Regarding the following from your post:
"Having ON notebooks inside some other synching mechanisms (automatic
synching, "Offline Files" etc.) would be a deadly sin."
I have placed my shared notebook folder on Groove. This makes it accesible
from the computers on which I use ON. But since both Groove and ON do their
own syncing, I wonder if I am committing the sin of syncing within syncing.
However, I am not aware of any problems or data loss so far.
The advantage of using a Groove workspace to store my ON notebooks is that
igives me access anytime I am connected to the internet, not only when I am
on my LAN.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Rainald,
Thanks again for all you suggestions and help. On an uinrelated OneNote
question, is there any way to make a new section in the unfiled notes
notebookj? This option is grayed out on my system.
