Removing WDS

Author: Rainald Taesler

As I do not know any better place to ask:
Wanting to remove all of Office an ON because of installing the Office
2007 and ON 2007 finals, I also want to remove WDS.
I can not un-install it via "Add and remove software".

Uninstalling is a must as I always had problems with it and at present
on each reboot an error-masg appears that "Windows Desktop Search
System Tray" caused a problem and at times thius is followed by
another error-msg that "NMIndexStoreSvr.exe" caused a problem.
There is no icon in the IconTary (TaskTray).
And the Index-Options applet only shows that OneNote is the only thing
indexed, Outlook Express is missing ...

How could I manage to get completely rid of WDS??

Rainald
P.S. The version installed is 03.005824.280

Aloha Rainald,

Why can't you uninstall from Add/Remove? It appears as "Windows Desktop
Search" on my list and would apparently be uninstallable (though I haven't
tried it).

I cannot say WHY.

If I click the Remove-button, nothing happens.

It was just the same with OneNote 2007B2TR (but with the help of the
928218 article [BTW: terribly written, idiotic mistakes in the German
translation] I could remove all of Office BTR and ON and now I'm a
happy camper now with the final(s). But WDS is still there and behaves
really badly.

With this experience I assume that there might be 3 - 5 dozens of
entries in the registry which have to removed manually. I would do so,
would I have any instructions.

On mine too ;-)

I *KNOW* [siiiiiigh]

But the translation is idiotic if
"*Important* Do not close the Windows Installer folder."
(Step 2, 7.)
is translated to
"Nicht *Wichtig*: schlie

The Windows Install Clean Up Utility? It might get your system in a
state where you can install WDS again...It's worth a shot.

If I knew how to remove it, I'd have already told you ;)
I am asking though (I didn't ask earlier, because it was Thanksgiving
vacation time here).

Not at all. I'm simply saying that I don't see any reason why you couldn't
uninstall it. It looks like it should be a fairly straightforward process.
I assume you're logged in with an account that has admin privs on that machine?
