Well this thread seems to have been abandoned by everyone except me, so I'll
talk to myself and anyone else reading this with a similar problem.

I have put these ON files into a folder on a mapped drive on which I also
make offline copies of some of the folders (obviously not the ON folders or
any containing these folders). It doesn't let me open them if I do that.
However, if I put them onto a completely different folder that it accessed
through the e$ share, it works happily and has that little green tick in the
corner.

So it seems if you enable offline folders of any sort through the same
mapped drive on whcih your ON files are, it won't work.

I'm probably saying something you all already know, but at least I've just
realised it. Woohoo!
