Creating a numbered list is easy (OneNote 2007), but when I enter tab to
start a table, the numbers remain outside the table. If I create the table
first, then try to apply numbering to a column (like you can do in WORD) it
doesn't work (no numbers appear. I think I got numbers to appear inside a
table once, but each row contained "1.
--basically 1N started a separate
numbered list inside each row in the table--not what I wanted.
Why is this so difficult to do in 1N, or is it even possible?

"Numbered Rows in a Table" is more descriptive than my original subject
"Numbered Tables".
Too bad you can't edit posts here (or at least I don't see a way to...)

Thanks Ben. Leaving out the "." did the trick. :)
I would consider this a workaround since this is manually-maintained
numbering. This confirms OneNote cannot create/maintain dynamically numbered
rows in a table the way we can in WORD and insists on changing the first
column of a table into a numbered list if you try to start automatic
numbering with "1."
Maybe in a future version OneNote will be able to handle automatic numbering
in a list and in a table.

If I understand the "workaround" it fails to address the issue: the resulting
pseudonumbered list isn't processed as a list - i.e. you cannot drag a line
up the list & have it auto-renumber itself. That's what we're after really -
a multicolumn list with automatic numbering.

Ah, well that's a different kettle of fish, as they say.
You can have a numbered list -OR- you can have a table. But not both.
I'll mention that to the OneNote team but what you're asking for is a
somewhat more difficult task than simple ensuring that table formatting
take precedent over numbered list.
I don't think what you're asking for works in Word, either, though. You
CAN put the 1., 2. 3. in a table in Word but I don't think it will
automatically renumber itself as you drag up/down. (which isn't that
easy to do, by the way)

Yes, I see. (I keep running into what amounts to a wish for simple database
functionalities in 1N7). Here the simplest remedy would be the ability to
sort tables by row (requires manually altering a right-hand chronological
numbering column). Even my MSXL tricks don't cut it (pasting a spreadsheet
section more or less dumps a value array image, doesn't allow my usual
numbering tricks) in present version.
Thanks for your comment!

Unfortunately there is no such feature in ON.
Maybe something like that could be created in a future version. But
just don't know.
We always have to remember what ON is and what not. It definitely is not
a fully fledged word processor.
