Basic General Question

Author: ccp

I just downloaded trial One Note. It does look interesting but I can't get
anything started. When I open file tab I cannot access any options. They are
gray. What am I missing? I am sure if I could access the tabs I could figure
the rest out.

The first thing I would suggest is to activate the product. That should
enable everything.

Another way to tell if this is what is causing your problem is to try to add
an note to a page. If you can't add notes, you aren't activated.

Activation should be in the Help menu.

(Please note- activation is not the same as registration nor is it the same
as entering your key)

I'm also having an issue w/ not being able to access an option b/c it is
gray. It is under the "insert" option on the menu and I cannot insert a "file
as printout." I have activated and registered the product. How would I fix
this?

That problem is related to the OneNote Printer more than to activation.

Are you running Vista 64 bit, by chance? If so, then send to or insert as
printout doesn't work. If you aren't running Vista 64 bit, then try running
detect and repair on your system and see if that brings the OneNote printer
back. You can check here for how to get the printer back:

I am using Vista 64 bit. So then how do I get powerpoints into onenote for
taking lecture notes?? It doesn't make sense to me why that feature wouldn't
work.

Here's an explanation for why the printer doesn't work in 64-bit Vista:
http://blogs.msdn.com/david_rasmussen/archive/2008/04/21/onenote-64-bit-print-driver...

As for how to get PowerPoints into OneNote...you can copy/paste the
slides into OneNote, though I recognize that is a little bit of a pain.
If I give it a little more thought I may be able to figure out another
way to do it.
