Last week I needed to access the FTP server of a friend. Thought of using the
built in access in Explorer, but no dice: it asks for the server name, then
the password, then says it can't connect without knowing the password.
Checked user and password, they are OK. Tried by installing FTP Surfer, no
dice. I can attempt to connect, but the connection times out.
My previously working connection to my own website has also suddenly refused
service, with similar problems. Has a change in Vista killed off FTP access?

I think it is a problem with IE7, not with Vista. Now I use a free FTP
client (FTP Commander).

I don't see how it is connected to IE7: even FTP Surfer fails to connect,
forcing me to assume something more basic than IE7 which is not even running
at the time.
But I'll give FTP commander a try....

Thanks Norbert, FTP Commander solved my problem, or at least circumvents it,
which is all I need....
