Message Queuing failed to bind to port 1801 in Cluster resource

Author: Aaron
Date: Sep 22, 2008 19:04

I am attempting to create a MSMQ cluster resource. When I try to bring it on
line, I get the following error:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSMQ$MSMQ
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2170
Date: 9/22/2008
Time: 9:48:15 PM
User: N/A
Computer: TSS4W475V3
Description:
Message Queuing failed to bind to port 1801. The port may already be bound
to another process. Make sure that the port is free and try to start Message
Queuing again. If this problem arises during setup, you must free the port
and run setup again.

MSMQ is functing fine on each node. This is the 3rd 2 node cluster I am
trying to set up. All built exactly the same. I did not have any problems
on the other 2 clusters?

Any Ideas?

MSMQ stalls when DC's are taken offline

Author: Andrew Maloney
Date: Sep 10, 2008 20:09

We have two 2000 DC's in the same AD site running MSMQ 2.0. When we re-boot
one of them MSMQ will stall on one of the client servers (running 2003 MSMQ
3.0). It seems to recover itself in about 10 mins.

Is there any way of determining which DC is responding to MSMQ requests from
the client servers? Also, is there any way to force these connections to one
of the servers (so the other one can be rebooted)?

thanks,

Andrew

  Very few messages in journal

Author: ChristerS
Date: Sep 9, 2008 01:06

I have enabled journal on one of my queues on an W2k3 MSMQ server. There is
no storage limit set on the server or the queue, but still the journal stops
logging after a few hundred messages. What could be limiting the storage?

There is plenty of disk space available. The msmq storage folder takes up
about 200 MB of disk space and does not grow any larger.

The server is part of a domain. I can see the msmq queues in AD but I cannot
access any settings here. When i right click msmq and select Properties I get
the message "No properties are available on this object.". However, in
Computer Mangement locally on the server I can access all settings.

I do not understand what limits the number of messages logged in the
journal, and I need to increase this.

Any help is deeply appreciated!

  MSMQ on a Cluster

Author: zinck74
Date: Sep 8, 2008 15:30

I've installed MSMQ in a clustered environment. It seems like
whichever node is the active node there are two instances of MSMQ. I
think one of them is the local queue and the second is the clustered
queue. I'm wondering, do I even need that local one? Can I just
disable that service? It's currently set to manual, but is not
started so it doesn't seem like it's even needed.

Thanks,
Bill

messaging queue disappears from Computer Managerment after reboot

Author: srkenny
Date: Aug 26, 2008 08:51

Hi all,

I have MSMQ installed and working. However, on reboot of my machine,
the Message Queueing is no longer visible in Computer Management and
also from code, the queues are not accessible.

The actual msmq queueing service is there and is running. The queues
in C:\WINDOWS\system32\msmq\ all appear to be fine.

When I go to Add/remove windows components, it appears that MSMQ is
installed. I need to uninstall it, then reinstall and add my queues
back in in order for it to work again.

Any one with any ideas on a possible cause for this?

I am running an XP Service Pack 3 machine.

Kind regards,
Sean

  How to Install MSMQ

Author: wesbird
Date: Aug 20, 2008 18:16

I have this weird problem, after googling, to install MSMQ, 'Add or
Remove Programs', 'Add/Remove Windows Components', 'Application
Server', 'Detail' button, check 'Message Queuing' option. So I went my
machine, follow the same step, surprise, there is no such 'Message
Queuing' option in my 'Application Server'.
so I google again but found nothing usefully. What's problem? do I
need a special permission? I never install MSMQ before. Please help
me.

Thank you,

Wes
