 Up
  context menus in file explorer

Author: amorphous999

If there is a better newsgroup to post this question in, please let me
know.

I'm using a company computer over VPN. Speed is acceptable for the most
part. One thing that is very slow is file explorer context menus. I
right-click on a menu item and it takes more than 30 seconds for the
context menu (open, copy, paste, send to, etc.) to come up. Is there a way
to analyze the context menu so I can see what it is referring to? I am
wondering if some entries in the context menu are referring to apps. on
remote servers.

Thanks in advance,

I was having trouble with my internet connection where IE said my DSL was
disconnected, but I still had my voip phone still running. ATT said the
problem was with IE as I was having a lot of white screens. Is this a
problem with IE or my DSL?

  IE 7 problem - not loading pp.properly

Author: Cathy F.
Date: Aug 19, 2008 12:41

I have XP & had IE 6, no probs.

But updated to IE 7 a couple of days ago & since then web pages won't open
on the first try - nor will they close when I hit the "x". Have to hit "End
Program" window and w-a-i-t for it to finally close. The site will usually
load okay on the second try. Anyone know what is up with this annoyance and
how to fx it?

Thanks -

IE7 'HTTP 404 Not found' error on Popup Pages

Author: Tom M
Date: Aug 14, 2008 15:23

Recently I discovered that on certain websites (specifically two different
major bank credit card sites), that when I click on the credit card image
for the next page (I believe a popup) I get the above error with 'The
webpage cannot be found'. I get no popup message (like for an active x). It
doesn't matter if I have the popup blocker on or off.
I have not idea when this problem started.

One link appears to be a JavaScript so I check and updated my Java. I
checked the Add-ons etc and found nothing and disabled them, but no change.
Then I forced IE7 back to the default settings and still no help.

I have IE7, XPSP3, Zone Alarm, AVG Free.

I can provide links for someone who knows what to look for. (I didn't
provide them now because I don't want to appear to be advertising.)

Any ideas? TIA

What's the RED CROSS for - top of iexplore screen

Author: David
Date: Aug 12, 2008 15:20

What I should really say is.....

I always thought that hitting the red cross stopped the page from
downloading, i.e. if there were hundreds of graphics, it would
interrupt it immediately, and you'd get an incomplete page, but at
least be able to proceed.

Since I've gone to Windows XP (aaargh!) it no longer seems to do that,
and it's taking minutes rather than seconds to load pages sometimes
(e.g. eBay!) - and I have a relatively fast PC set-up.

Is there no way the red cross will work? Is it perhaps something to
do with all those settings re Java and what-have-you? (Right click,
properties on IE icon)

Grateful for any tips!

  I hate IE7

Author: MarMac1
Date: Aug 8, 2008 23:18

I just got my first Vista machine and it came with IE7. I let it update a
few months ago on my old XP machine and hated it. I was able to go back and
use IE6. Doe anyone know if I can do it with Vista? Is there anyway to go
"backward" and get rid of this stupid browser? Please help me.

If you can help me, you can post to this group, but I really would like for
you to email me at marmac2768@comcast.net if you can help.

Thanks.

IE7 needs refresh to display web page

Author: Fred Bloggs
Date: Aug 5, 2008 13:55

I've got this really odd situation with IE7.
When I go to a website, the timer starts revolving and it says the usual
'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. This happens even on the
Google home page. If I then hit the refresh (F5) button, it loads the page
perfectly! It seems that once the page is in the cache, it'll loads okay.
Firefox has no problem at all with any sites.

I've tried uninstalling IE7, reinstalling and updating as per other posts in
this forum, but nothing works.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Fred
