  deleted mailboxes on exchange 2003

Author: Gary D
Date: Sep 22, 2008 06:51

Hi all
I have deleted some mailboxes (old users) as our exchange 2003 server is
very low on disk space. I purged them in Exchange System Manager also.
The space was not freed up and have since noticed thet the options were
ticked to retain deleted email and mailboxes for 30 days.

Is there any way I can get the space back I need, without waiting the 30
days ?

thanks in advance for any advice

Gary

Exchange 2007 SPF - sender ID

Author: Miha
Date: Sep 18, 2008 06:43

Hi

I'm getting a lot of mail into spam (quarantine folder) that is sent from
different SMTP servers as senders domain - OK, but the problem is that there
are also a lot of non-spam mail inside, so users are very unhappy because a
lot of their legitime mail stucks into Exchange quarantine and I need to
check often and re-send them.
I'm putting this senders on a safe-senders list, but this is a part-time
solution for me. Can this be solved other way?

  Exchange 2k7 SMTP relay

Author: Miha

Hi

We have some users that want to use Thunderbird, so I configure them POP3
account. Now when they try to sent message to non-company address outside of
our comapny LAN via Exchange SMTP (smtp.mydomain.com) it's not permitted
(that's OK), but when I enable SMTP authentication at client mail settings
it doesn't work.
How can I configure Exchange SMTP so that authenticated users can send mail
through it?
Thanks!

Changing Exchange 2007 message size doesn't work

Author: Miha
Date: Sep 15, 2008 12:57

Hi
I have a new install of Exchange 2007, Using Outlook 200/2007 I'm getting
the following error when trying to send an e-mail with an attachment larger
than 10 MB (from any account): error (0x80040610) : 'The message being sent
exceeds the message size established for this user.'
The e-mail doesn't even really try to send, it just sits in the outbox.
Outlook is setup in Exchange server cached mode. I have searched the
Internet and found advice on checking/changing the following values in the
new Exchange Management Shell (the command line tool for managing Exchange
2007):

get-sendconnector shows the send connector has a MaxMessageSize of 15MB
(which I changed from the default setting of 10MB)
get-recieveconnector shows both the default (port 25) and client (port 587)
recieve connectors have a MaxMessageSize of 15MB (which I also changed from
the default of 10MB)
get-transportconfig shows MaxSendSize and MaxReceiveSize are 15MB.
get-Mailbox shows MaxSendSize and MaxReceiveSize are unlimited.

Warning for storage limit does not work

Author: Haggis
Date: Sep 11, 2008 16:24

Our Exch2K3 server's warning emails for users going over their mailbox limit
seems to have stopped working ... and yes they are definitely over their
limit...it says so in ESM when the storage limit column is added to mailbox
view. They are configured to run in the mailstore properties - 'run daily at
2am'.

Some histroy on this is ... a while back i installed and successfully
configured the message quota service on this server. However, we were getting
an error relating to this service every time the server was rebooted, so
recently i uninstalled it. Now the native message warnings do not seem to
work.

Any help appreciated.

Unable to relay when using Exchange 2007 as SMTP server

Author: Miha

Hi,

we have an internal application which needs to send mail to external e-mail
addresses. I've configured the application to use Exchange 2007 to send the
mail as SMTP server. This Exchange server has HUB, Transport and CAS roles
installed. However, the application reports it cannot send mail due to the
following error:
SMTP response: unable to relay How can I configure Exchange 2007 so that it
accepts mail from the internal application and relays it externally ?
On receive connector I have enabled Anonymous users?
Any ideas ?

Cannot set receive connector to proper name in Exchange 2k7

Author: Miha
Date: Sep 9, 2008 06:44

Checking Exchange smtp response from telnet smtp.mydomain.com 25 I get
response like server.domain.local, so I tried to change FQDN on Receive
Connectors - Default SERVER_NAME to smtp.mydomain.com (external DNS name),
but I get the following error:
When the AuthMechanism paramteter on a Receive connector is set to the value
ExchangeServer, you must set the FQDN parameter on the Receive connector to
one of the following values: the FQDN of the transport server, the NetBIOS
name of the transport server, or $null.
I can change CLIENT-ReceiveConnector to the right FQDN name, but
Default-ReceiveConnector reports error.
Any ideas how to change this, so that my Exchange will answer from the
internet via SMTP from the real DNS name like smtp.mydomain.com?
Thank you in advance
Regards,Miha
