" is not a valid name. Bug in Access 2007

Author:

I have just installed Office 2007 Professional as an upgrade. Unfortunately
now I am having problems in Access2007.

Firstly, when I try to import either MS Excel files or text files using the
wizard under the External Data tab, it goes right up to the save table step
and then gives me the following error message: " is not a valid name. Make
sure that it does not include invalid characters or punctuation and that it
is not too long.

Well I'm sure there are no invalid characters in any of the field names nor
in the tables themselves. It happens with all of my databases even if I
convert them to Access2007 format.

I sometimes get the same error message when I try to run, open some queries.

I see from a web search that other users have had the same problem but I
don't see any solutions.

Can anyone help?

  Green Progress Bar...

Author: Russell Rohde
Date: Jan 31, 2008 21:53

On one of my hard drives (500 gig capacity) I have 1 folder with 450gig of
movies (no B.S., they are all copies of my owned dvd's - I hate dvd's and
have a media pc hooked up to a server in a closet).

When I access this folder, it takes a minimum 10 10 seconds before I can
access any files (on the PC local to the hdd). I understand that I have a
lot of files and vista craps on about it. My question it, What is the Green
Progress bar in the Address Bar directly associated with? Is it loading into
cache the video file dimensions, author etc or is it just because there is a
heap of files and, is there any way of preventing this from happening. In XP
Media Centre Edition, I had with 20 thousand plus files and it took nowhere
near the time vista does to access a folder with only 380 (ish) files.

Thanks if anyone can help.

Rusty.

File open dialog box not displayed

Hello group,

I have been asked (as a non-programmer!) to develop a database of
blood cancers. As a guide I have a similar cancer registry database I
can refer to. I see this as forming the basis for what I am to
develop and have been going through it, including the code to try and
'decipher' it. Unfortunately the original developer has left the
organisation.

The 'model' database has a front end containing queries, forms and
reports and a back end containing other queries and the tables. There
is a button on the front end main switchboard with the caption...

  Field Type Conversion

Author: islandlover
Date: Jan 31, 2008 19:32

I have developed a form with information going to an Access Database. For
some reason the credit card numbers are appearing similar to the following:
4.4909233454533E+12. I have tried going to my table and changing the field
type from General Number to Text but Access deletes the records instead of
converting. What do I need to do to correct this? Also, what made this
happen? Thanks for your help!!

How do I do a replace for a number of records?

Author: Nam22

I am importing a file which will contain about 20 records (20 fields per row)
into an access database table.
I want to be able to automate doing a REPLACE across all the records I
have imported.
(because. in order to make the import work, in the Excel csv file I replaced
all commas with the word 'comma'. I now want to replace the word 'comma' with
actual ',').
Do I make sense?

any help very gratefully received.
thanks
Nicola

  Access to Word or Excel

I have an Access 2003 database that I built. I'ts very basic; it's a single
table with two columns as a primary key (to prevent duplicates), one data
entry form and 5 or 6 reports. I discovered that the organization that I
built this for doesn't have Access, only Word, Excel, Powerpoint and
Publisher.

Can anyone point me to a sample or instructions on how to recreate this very
basic Access app to either Excel or Word?

Any help is appreciated!

For J Paesen.

Sir, you sent me an email requesting some Access code. However you did
not supply a reply email address. If you still want the code would you
contact me again at the same address and also supply your email
address.

Thank you.

  switch funtion

I'm doing a switch function within a query grid. The expression is:
Switch([fieldA] Is Not Null,
[fieldA],[fieldB]="string1",2.5,[fieldB]="string2",10)

where fieldA contains number data and fieldB contains text data. I want
this expression to give me a column of numbers, but the expression is
spitting out the numbers as text ... the resulting column when I view the
query has the numbers justified to the left-hand margin of the column,
indicating that it's returning them as text. Is there some argument to add
to the switch function to have it return these values as numbers?

  How to export a report?

Author: tom

Is there any good way to export a report?

I have tried to export a fairly complex report using HTML and word, but the
formatting is all messed up. How do I
go about exporting and getting the formatting correct?
